when towing along the van and car are fine but as soon as i stop the damper behind the hich pushes the van away from the car with a loud clunk! any ideas as to what this is?
Without knowing the age of the van, or its service history, I am guessing it may be the hitch damper at fault.
Try pushing the hitch inwards as far as possible, release it then watch to see if returns slowly to its resting position.
If it does not, it has failed and needs replacing
i cant seem to push it back by hand it just wont budge, but when towing its fine until i stop, when i have come to a full stop the van is pushed away from the car by said damper?? resulting in an annoying clunk, caravan is old as the hills 1993 bailey champagne single axel 4 birth. could it be in need of grease??
When was it serviced last?
Could be partly seized and the force of the weight of van still moving forward is enough to move it a bit.
I would get an engineer to check it over.
