Hi All

Yippee!!. Pick up the 'van from nearby storage to pack for our week at Proctor' Steads, Craster.

We would welcome suggestions for a good towing route for our outfit (Landranger twin-axle and Vxhall Monterey 4x4)

Went M6/A59 a good few years back when we had a B&B weekend in Alnmouth. What's that road like for towing I can't really remember much about it. We had, also, considered the A66 via Barnard Castle and then up to Bishop Auckland as we have friends we could visit at Barnards Castle enroute.

The AA site suggests east across M62 to Leeds and then up the A1/A1M. Don't know the A1/A1M at all - What's that like for traffic, scenery - I'm sure it's better for ease of towing. AA no longer offers a towing option - unfortunately stopped that a couple of years back.

Any sugestions comments on the above routes and possible night halts enroute are very welcome. We could go today and stop off as we are not due at Craster until Monday.

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim, if you are comming up the M6 then use the A69 across to Newcastle and you will pick up the A1 at West Denton. Then head North. I have towed across the A69 on many occassion and it is a very good road for caravans. Just after Alnwick you leave the A1 at the first slip road after that it is back onto basic country roads. Bit of a bind to get too but Proctor Steads is a very nice site bit of tight turning to enter the site. You must try the Smoked Kippers from Craster but do them on the barby so as not to stink out your caravan. 2 Nice little pubs 1 is just round the corner fron the site the other is down in Craster its self.

All the best enjoy your hols.

Thanks for the advice Stan - much appreciated.

I had a leaning towards the A69 route and will probably go that way. I'm not great lover of motorway towing and prefer the scenic route if time allows. We've noted your recommendations for local food and drink.

The caravan's outside and I'n raring to go!!

Thanks again

Tim
