Please allow the comment that nobody is able to tell you whether you can tow safely. Any outfit is safe if it is driven with due care and consideration for the prevailing conditions. Therefore, you are the only person who can determine whether it is safe or not. The only answer an outsider can give is whether one can recommend an outfit such as yours. Judging by the data you have given, this should be the case.

Hi Geoff,

According to the information you provide, your car and caravan match is 95%.

The Bora weight (car, driver and a full tank of juice) is 1232kg and caravan (laden) is 1180kg.

Bearing in mind that you will probably have passengers in the car along with your holiday items this should bring that percentage down a touch. In my opinion, you should be ok.

Hi Geoff - I have the same outfit (van & car) except that my Bora is the 2 litre petrol. I feel that it is on the limit but tows okay. Beware the clutch particularly when reversing slightly uphill, in fact I have admitted defeat and now have a motor mover!

My neighbour had a 2.0 litre turbo diesel VW Bora to tow a Bailey Ranger of max. weight of 1300 kg. He said it was a brilliant tow car and has not had any trouble at all. Going on the performance of the Bora he has now bought a Jetta of the same specification and is very happy with the outfit. Admittedly it is only him and his wife and they tend to travel light regarding the minimum amount of clothes, etc. He is planning to tour Spain and France in the Autumn with the outfit.
