Some forum friends who were at the Practical Caravan rally at Stowford about three years ago may remember helping me with our new freshly unpacked Towsure porch awning.
At the time it looked a bit flimsy and it didn't break the bank to buy it but it's been on our caravan plenty of times since and it came to Polmanter for this years long stay of 18 days.
We've had some really nice weather here and the sun is just trying to break through as I type, but last night there were very heavy cloudbursts and what sounded like gale force winds.
We'd more or less resigned ourselves to seeing the awning in a heap on the floor when I opened the blinds earlier, but although it had sagged a bit because one of my pegs had been pulled out as the wind buffeted the side of the awning it's all good!
I used a bigger plastic ground peg, added a spare guy rope on the side facing the wind and it's as good as new.
The seams let in the occasional dribble of water now and then and it's a bit noisy in high winds but for a cheapo bog standard lightweight porch to keep the chairs and shoes in I recommend Towsure's model.

Hi, I see you are away for 18 days did you get a better rate for a long stay?
We hope to get our new van in the next ten days and I want to have a decent stay somewhere in Cornwall.
I have wondered about prices for longer stays.
Nice to see someone else who has not got an air awning.

Had to say bye bye to ours as last years August (the one with the flavoured Lancashire water bug) was a bit wet and despite giving it a treatment before hand it didn't stop the rain as well as it should, But for £50 second hand from a guy about 1 mile from home it did 3 2- week holidays so I cant complain. Our first awning with our first caravan. Very easy to put up on my own (no domestics with 'her in doors' thank you). We have now treated ourselves to a Kampa 260 (non air) complete with matching ground sheet, storm guy a box of rock pegs, not to mention a pair of Ragley Relaxer chairs.

The main reason for our long stay is that from our house to St Ives with a slight detour to collect the caravan from storage was 280 miles, our towcar is a thirsty beast so having paid for fuel it makes sense to maximise our stay and also to allow time to see my partners relatives who live in the general area without missing out on sunny holiday days ;)
On many 'Best of British' parks there is a small discount for longer stays, and we had a £30 reduction for a stay of 14 days (or over)
Polmanter Touring Park isn't the cheapest but it's well worth the pitch fee, we can't fault it.
I only use the awning if we stay for a week or more so I couldn't justify the cost of an air awning, and the lightweight porch is easy to put up by myself in a short time.
We rarely sit in the awning, if it's sunny I'm outside and if it's raining I'm in the caravan so our awning is mainly used to store the picnic table and chairs and things like shoes, sandals and the dreaded crocs for on site showers.

As I mentioned on another thread, our porch awning is a terrible fit, as the van door is at the rear, adjacent to the bunk windows, with another window on the other side. We only have used it 3 times. Must put it on ebay!

Sat here this morning trying to catch up on the latest posts and read about Graham E with what Ipresume was a leaking Awning .I know most campers would go and buy a tin of fabsil, I have to say I have never used it as when our awning decided to spring a light leak and Im surprised our Aldi bargain hunter didnt pick up on this as Aldi had a product in store for about £2.49 and to my amazement it worked very well. One treatment and no more leak.
