Toyota HiLux Surf

Hi.

I have just had a look at a Toyota HiLux Surf Auto.

Can any one tell me what they are like for towing?

Are auto's any good for towing? as I have been told that they are not that good.

Any advice would be helpful

thanx

Ken

Hi Ken

we have a 1994 Toyota Surf 3 litre diesel auto. I was advised to ignore the 2.4 diesel as the head blows. Ours came into this country just over 12 months ago with warranted mileage and full history. We tow a Pageant Burgundy and, its the old cliche, you don't know its there. Towing, we get 20 mpg, solo on a run, 30 mpg.

Our other car is a BMW 320d Touring and I prefer towing with the Surf....

Thanx for that guys your comments are noted.

I have looked at both the 2.4 & 3 litre models.

I will most likely following your advice, go for the bigger one.

thanx for all your help

Ken

My ex son in law has one that is an early 2.4 auto and it just goes on and on. If it does need a part he can obtain it far quicker and much cheaper than you can for more modern cars. The Surf is also a popular overlanding vehicle if you wish to travel to lands afar.

No experience of the 2.4 but know quite a few people that have been very happy with the 3.0 Auto.

The 2.4L should be avoided unless the ehad has been changed plus its maximum braked towing weight is about 1500kgs. Just noticed that the OP is a few years old!

I put in my post when I saw a new notification, don't know how that one popped up. I will correct my post: "my son in law......."
