I had a Tracker fitted to my 'van in March '10. In early June this year while on holiday in Devon it ceased to function. When I contacted Tracker I was informed that units fitted to caravans only have a 1 year warranty and that it would cost £99 for an engineer call out. I was given advice to try to remedy the problem with no success and asked for the call out to comply with my insurance.

It transpired that a 3 amp in-line fuse had blown - this was hidden from view (incidently the only part of the tracker that was) and took the engineer time to find it.

I intend to respond to Tracker to ask for my fee to be returned but before I do, has anyone else experienced this problem and is it common knowledge re the warranty as all my handbooks etc.from Tracker mention a 3 year warranty.

Did you have the Tracker monitor fitted as per this link? http://www.tracker.co.uk/TRACKER/ProductDetails/Caravan.aspx I cannot find anywhere where it states the warranty is only limited to 1 year. Perhaps you have another type of Tracker.

It was fitted as per the link by their Scottish engineers at my caravan dealer during a service last year. The tracker engineer who found the fault was not very complimentary of the original installation and took a few pictures on his phone to forward to Tracker.

Just had a response from Tracker stating that under their terms and conditions, section 1 has warranty period for caravans as 12 months although their booklet states that the warranty for all tracker units is 3 years - be aware when requesting a repair!!

Is this the tracker that's fitted as standard to Bailey caravans?
If so they do a once in a lifetime cover although it's not generally known. Instead of paying around £50 a year it costs about £99 for as long as you own the van. Not transferrable. When it comes time to renew mention this to them because they for some reason don't tell you.

Hi Lord B,
As far as I can gather that price has went up considerably as of the beginning of this year. Can't remember the exact price but it was the subject of quite a bit of debate on another caravan forum where they have a specific Bailey forum. I'm also not sure if that cover you mention is only for monitoring the system, I think any repairs will be chargeable on top of that fee. On that same forum there was also mention of a battery which needs to be renewed every 3 years at a cost of £99. That was the first I had heard of that.

Thanks for that Rob. I wouldn't know about the increase in having paid the full whack but I'm aware that it wouldn't cover any repairs. The battery is a new one on me though.

Hi Rob
My Bailey with Tracker is nearly 4 years old.
No one told me about a battery. Do you know where it is?
I'll ask my dealer at the next service.

Hi Dustydog,
I've no first hand knowledge of this only what I've read elsewhere:
Quote:
"The battery needs replacement every 3 years and I understand it is the internal 'non rechargable' in the Tracker unit. It has to be done by Tracker as the unit needs to be re-commissioned after replacement and this costs (currently )£199 including parts and labour."
There has been a couple of post on another forum relating to this. I went on this morning and did a search but their search facility seems not to filter out unwanted posts very well. End result was I couldn't find the ones I remembered but did find the one above. I did also find one which contradicted this as far as time scale went, according to that one the battery should last 5/6 years. This timescale came from a telephone call between a forum member and a Tracker technician. I had never heard mention of the need for a battery to be replaced prior to reading these posts.
The life time subscription is now £199.00
Do you know where your Tracker unit is located in your caravan? I found out by chance when I had a fault in the Tracker on my Senator when purchased new. Tracker came out to repair/replace, seems they are all located in the same place which I found a bit surprising. I don't want to post location on here although I'm sure every self respecting caravan tea leaf knows exactly where they are. If you don't know and want to know, asl Parksy or Damien for my email address and I'll pass on the info to you.
Mods, if DD wants my email address please pass on.
Thanks
Robert
