Transverse beds

We recently purchased our first fixed bed caravan, a Mendip Magnum which we are over joyed with. Apart from a couple of small issues which I can't change this is a perfect van. My only question is regarding the bed. It is positioned over a large void which is of course a welcomed storage area. But this has a tendancy to make the mattress cold and I worry about it getting damp. We caravan right through the winter so this is an issue that I wish to tackle quickly - your help and suggestions please.

The technique I use on my current van, and previously on a trailer tent, is to pick up an off cut of cheap carpet - the sort that has a foam backing, so is quite light, and put it under the bed.

If necessary, you can cut it into pieces and stick it down, perhaps with double sided tape, to allow access to any hatches.
