Hello Luke,

I cant offer any words of wisdom about the performance of the air conditioner, but have you fully considered the possible alternatives?

The permanently fitted units tend to be quite heavy, and swallow up paylaod capacity.

They tend to be quite expensive,

They can only be used in the caravan.

One of the alternatives might be to consider one of the mobile units available for DIY stores. These can be set up to vent the condenser air to the outside.

They may be just as heavy but you can use them at home, and they will tend to be cheaper to buy.

As for performance, that depend a lot on personal preferences, and how you set them up.

Incidentally whilst ownership of the AC hopefully wont be 'Traumatic', the manufacture is TRUMA

thanks john l i had not considered the use of a mobile unit i had only thought of use during the evenings and night time. however it might be useful for sitting in the awning while eating and having a few drinks without being eaten alive by the local bugs.the benefit i thought with the truma unit was not taking up living space in the van while possibly being able to plumb it into the blown air vents getting an even temperature throughout. also as im living in good old cold ireland i normally would not have use for it at home but only when away, all good points you have made and i suspect your also right when you say they could be less expensive.anyway thanks again you have set me thinking outside the box

we have a roof mounted dometic air conditioner on our series 5 senator vermont. it is fantastic. in france last year during a particularly hot spell it was a godsend. I would have been struggling without it.

Hi Colin i wanted a roof mount type but my dealer told me it was a lot of trouble wiring it and chasing wires across the roof and down wall pannels and that it would probably invalidate the warranty on my s6 indiana. how and who did yours and did you have any warranty problems thanks luke, only reason i was looking into the truma ac was that it would be an easy wiring job in the front bench next to the junction box.thanks luke

Hi luke it was fitted from new for us by the dealer. We were going to fit one of the truma ones but when the dealer phoned Bailey the were told that senator roofs were reinforced for AC units so no warranty problems.

Colin.

I have no experience of AC fitted into a caravan, but I do know that the portable units are noisy. Can't see anybody sleeping with one running.
