Is there a route which avoids Switzerland.

If you look at a map then whichever way you choose, you're going to be going a long way around by trying to avoid Switzerland.

If you look on mappy.com - and input your starting point, and your destination, and then under 'Calculation of Expenses' select 'without tolls' - then it will calculate you a route around the top of Switzerland and into Italy, but it takes ten hours instead of four - and adds three hundred miles to your journey!

I looked at this option too - same journey actually. If you think about it, the actual cost of the Swiss carnet (about
