Travelling with a dog

The dog now has her passport and we will be taking her to the Beziers region of Languedoc Roussion in August. Have people experienced any problems in finding a vet for the tapeworm treatment before returning? Will the fact that it is August make any difference? We intend to get her treated before setting off on the journey north. Also, are there any side effects to the treatment? We heard recently of some people with an elderly dog who had to cut their trip short and the dog became messily unwell in a hotel on the way back.

Its just the normal worming tablets such as Drontal Plus that the vet administers. There is a list of approved treatments but the vets will know which ones they are. It is also possible to have an injection if your dog will not take tablets. We have never had any adverse effects in our two, even when the treatment included skin drops for ticks. Certainly the vets nearer the channel coast will all be experienced in the PETS process, probably those down south as well, its just that the old system only gave you 1 days to get things sorted before travel so we always use vets up north.
