My son lives down the road in Cardiff, so use it a lot. Good site, good location, good bus service into Cardiff / Newport, easy for other parts of South Wales.
If you do go out and are coming back late, do not forget to take the key for the park gates and have a torch handy. There are set times when the gates are locked by council park staff, very early in winter.

We have just spent New Year there as we have relatives in south Wales. Nice site, generally level Hardstanding pitches. Usual CC high standard of toilet blocks. Very friendly Wardens. Set in Tredegar Park, which is very nice.
There is quite a bit of motorway noise from the M4. Also there was also the sound of what we first took to be clay pigeon shooting, but someone told us was a farmer bird scaring. This went on consistently through the day, although was easy to tune out. The chap in the van next to us said it was really upsetting his dog however.
To get to the site you go through the Park, and there are gates half way along that are locked at dusk. Not a problem once you have checked in as you are issued with a key. However if you arriving for the first time after dark you may want to phone ahead for instructions as there was no sign on the gate indicating that the site was on the other side.
We like this site because we get to visit the relatives without having to stay with them. Good also for visiting Cardiff which has much to recommend it and Newport which probably has a bit less. Not exactly a country side retreat though, although the park is pleasant.

Thanks for the replies.
My wife booked this site and from the replies it would appear she has picked a brilliant one.
I have a Status 530-5 Aerial will this pick up a signal or will I need to take my Sat Dish?

From the tone of the replies it appears that this site has had a huge turn-around. It is situated on the edge of a large council estate, and when we used it some five or six years ago, it was plagued by children and yobs from the estate riding round on bikes. The wardens did try hard to beat them back, but it was a losing battle. The wardens must have changed too, as they were quite miserable then.As has been said, it is also rather noisy. Not a site I want to rush back to, but hey ho, you can't please everyone!

i have been using the site for the last 10 years , never seen any trouble there , unless its happened when i havent been as i only go about twice a year , there were some Gypsies on a field as you go into the park but they didnt cause any trouble and were soon moved on , you wont need a satellite dish for normal freeview channels , also there are barriers at the entrance and exit to the site , if you go midweek at certain times of the year you get a 50% discount off your pitch fee , not far from the site is a CL which was featured in the CC mag a while back , all hardstanding and a beautiful view

I have, since posting on here looked at reviews from other Forums and have found no mention of any problems. It appears that you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Hi. No kids or yobs on the two occaisions we were there. TBH we didn't see many youngsters in the park itself, although it was January and wet last time. For us the only thing that could have put us off was the traffic noise.

We went there in July and loved the site, it is up to the normal CC standards. There is however a lot of noise from the nearby M4. We were unfortunate to arrive at a very busy time and the only pitches available were the ones under the trees at the bottom of the site. During our stay it rained almost continuously and when it stopped the dripping from the trees prolonged the misery. We had no problems with any children from the adjacent area. There were problems with travellers who had pitched up in the Tredegar House car park. The Caravan Club wardens kept the site gates shut for fear of the travellers gaining entry, but they never caused any problems. There is an Asda superstore within 5 minute drive away. Nearby attractions are the Big Pit mine which is a fantastic underground (300ft down) experience all for free (except for parking). Also nearby is The Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans, this is again free and is a wonderful insight to Welsh heritage.
We have again booked Tredegar Park for this coming July as we like the area very much.

Is the CL called Penygroes? We want to use Tredegar this weekend, but you cannot erect windbreaks on the hardstanding pitches and we need them for the dogs.

Carper, be aware that to get to Big Pit from Newport you will need to pass through our village. We only allow you through the virtual gates if you deposit a virtual bottle of Scotch in the box on the way past!
Big pit is a wonderful experience, but mind the men in the showers!

If you can find Scotch anywhere near my Van you can have it. But keep your hands off of the Brandy.
Being ex Army and knowing a lot of sailors there is nothing wrong with men in the showers.

You obviously have a full understanding of the value of "Soap on a Rope"? If you drop the soap and bend to pick it up, it saves the pantomine moment of "Look out!!! he's behind you".

Ahhh! Gosport, I was at HMS Dolphin for many years. I remember walking across Pneumonia Bridge from the town past the blocks of flats, over the bridge, past Haslar and on into Dolphin. It wasn't called Pneumonia Bridge for nothing, especially in the winter. Alas all gone now, there is a road in its place. The Submarine Museum is worth a visit if you go to Gosport again.

I certainly remember Pneumonia Bridge as I used to fish off of it, even though fishing from it was banned. When I was in the Army there were a couple of girls who came into the Army Pub The Fox and I walked one of them over the bridge a few times. She was a surgeon Commanders Daughter.
I have not been to the Submarine Musuem( have they got men in showers there

) but there again it has been a few years since I was there. In actual fact we stopped at Kingfisher Park at Browndown.
