We stayed for a 3 nights back in spring B/H.

Very well run, immaculately kept by the wardens. We had gravel hardstanding so rock pegs required for awning although there are some grass pitches which maybe very wet though if this weather carries on.

Piches level on gently sloping site.

In the grounds of the historic house. gates locked at night to keep out the rif raf, but you get a key. This means that once the public are excluded from the main parkland you have the run of the place.

House and gardens worth a visit I beleive. We didn't go into house though( next time).

You can hear the M4 in the distance at all times and there is a little noise from the main rd which runs down one side of the site, but not bad realy.

Asda a few hundred yards down the rd, 20 mins from centre of Cardiff.

Anything specific you'd like to know?

Only went there once, its the closest site to where i live, i thought it might be handy for those quick last minute weekends away.

I was appalled by the 2 ignorant, arrogant women who were at reception, i was going to join the caravan club whilst there but was so disgusted by their behaviour that i vowed never to join the caravan club, i also complained to the CC about their attitude.

a beautiful park none the less even when you consider that its surrounded by newport, which is a pit at best. pity about the staff.

this is one of the only sites i will never return to.

We stayed at this site for a couple of nights last year, thought it was a lovely site, especially for walking the dog, didn't hear the M4 to much.

We didn't have any problems with the wardens but they may have been different ones to the ones MikeAce came across - don't be put of by wardens some of them get their own site and think they rule the world - on the whole most of them are ok.

Would definately go back

I live in Newport about a mile from the site. It is a very nice site and a lovely house and grounds that used to belong to the Morgan family ( the Pirate Captain Herny Morgan who later became Govenor of Jamaca ). It has undergone extensive restoration over the last 25 years and is well worth a look.

Newport has got a couple of things going for it but not many. There is the Transporter Bridge and the Roman Amphitheatre and Museum at Caerleon but the town itself is definately worth a miss. I live there but go to Cardiff or Bristol if I want anything.

The Wye valley is nice. Cardiff has a lot to offer and some of the surrounding countryside is worth a look.

hi Dale,

Unfortunately I have to agree with Mike.

We visited October time and the warden was unbeliveably rude, we booked weeks in advance, and on arrival i simply asked her " is there any chance we could have a hard standing pitch please" well that was it she replied rudely " i'm sorry sir but your dam lucky you can have a pitch at all"

Site nice but wardens not !

We stayed at this site only once, to attend the classic car rally one September. As the car rally ends on Sunday evening, when we booked we asked if we needed to pay extra if we stayed on site until six o' clock on Sunday. The warden refused any extra payment, saying that it would be ok to stay as the site wasn't busy. When we pulled out on Sunday night, there was a different warden on duty, and she refused to raise the barrier until we paid for an extra nights stay. The ensuing argument was not pretty, but she raised the barrier when she realised that my threat to drive through it was serious! She said she would report me to the club, but I never heard any more of it. Perhaps I should have reported her, but I didn't bother.

Seems she's still there!

Lol, at least i now know that it wasnt my face that got the old woman angry. lmao

She even huffed at me saying "park your van over there out of the way!" i remember thinking to myself how dare she, my van is brand new and gleaming white, how dare you look down your nose at me. i even turned up straight after work wearing a shirt and tie, how many vanners turn up on site that smart?

Anyone else been insulted by these wardens? post here and i will forward a copy of the text to the CC because like i said above, these wardens stopped me wanting to join the CC, i bet that i am not the only one too.

As previously stated it is not only the wardens on this site, i think you'll find there are quite a few sites where you receive the same sort of harsh treatment.

As i put in another thread, i asked to get my van out of storage at open season i was told, i'm too busy to worry about storage i have a site to open.

Also when i told the warden that i couldn't drop my rear steadies because my pitch was water logged i was told well if you don't like it you can take your caravan elsewhere.

Hmmmm just remind me again who pays their wages????

Have you spoken to the area manager about the wardens on the Tredegar House site. Contact through East Grinstead - he seems a decent bloke.

I have used Tredegar Park Caravan Club site for quite a number of years and have always found the wardens to be friendly and helpful, until now that is...

I have just arrived home after a 5 night stay at the site that I can only describe as frought.

I arrived at the site on a very rainy and wet Sunday lunchtime and pulled up behind another outfit that was waiting to be 'booked in'.

Point 1:

I proceeded to enter the office when the male asst warden barked 'are you waiting to be booked in?' I replied yes only to be told to return to my car as I would be blocking the lane. I remarked that my wife was driving so the outfit was not being left unattended. to which he just turned away from me. His wife (I assume) looked very sheepish and was very apologetic in her attitude to me, she was clearly embarrased.I had asked for a hard standing pitch but was told that there were only grass pitches available.

Point 2: I returned to the office about an hour later as I noticed there were several empty hard standing pitches available. I went down to the office and The Female site warden was on duty this time and I enquired about the possibilty of moving pitch as the grass was very boggy and muddy. She answered 'NO' in a very sharp and rude attitude.

Now people who know me will agree that I don't suffer fools so I qusetioned her desicion only to be told that she was keeping the hardstanding pitches for motorhomes that MAY be arriving later that evening. When I commented that I wasnt happy with her descision, she called her Husband who also was very rude. He replied "If you are not happy, then go to another site".

I walked out of the office in discust.

I am in the process of writing a letter to The Caravan Club which will demand an explanation of thier incredulous behaviour.

I will not return to this site until I know for sure that they have moved elsewhere.

A beautiful site spoilt by unbeleivably rude and arrogant Wardens.

A word of advice. If you have had a unpleasant stay at Tredegar Park or any caravan club site, COMPLAIN! It's your club!

"COMPLAIN! It's your club!"

Sorry but it is not your club, you just pay a membership to join the club. Your complaint is no different from a complaint, to say Haven ( ie no special right ). You have no preferential rights by having a membership card, only a discount on fees.

It certainly puts you off sites hearing this about wardens. I've been on sites that have had lovely wardens - they really do add the icing on the cake.

I wonder how Dale got on back in June?

GUMBO, I was speaking generally....

A few points though, I wasn't aware you had to pay a membership fee to join Haven??? LOL

secondly, I never for one minute suggested that you would have preferential rights by having a Caravan Club membership card, or did I???

When you join any club/organisation, you become a part that club. There are currently just over 1 million members of the Caravan Club.

"The Caravan Club is run by its members, for its members."

Hi - We were on this site in July-we arrived on the sunday and were told to choose a pitch and report back. - a few hardstanding and a few grass available-chose a grass pitch (big mistake), because it started to rain the next day and did not stop for a further 2 days - wardens asked if people on grass pitches could put visitors car park. Some people did move their vans from grass to hardstanding when they became available. What I did notice was that some hardstandings that became available had disabled pegs put on them (noticed 4 one day)later noticed filled with big units/motorhomes.Did seem a lot of disabled in big units in one day.I hope the CC does not go down C&CC route of allocating pitches it would be a big mistake.Site is a bit noisy, but on our visit found the wardens okay.

Strange to hear of your experience - weather aside (it rained pretty much non stop while we there!), we had a great stay at Tredagar, though wouldn't return to the Newport area again in a hurry - we thought it quite a noisy, dirty and dog-unfriendly area in general.
