Trip from Calais to Costa Blanca

My wife and I have just started full timing it in our Swift Kontiki home,

straight from the comfort of a brick and mortar house to one on rubber

tyres!! We have recently sold our business, did not want to buy a house

straight away, so went for a mororhome, and went full time.

The reason for the e-mail is to ask we could pick your brain somewhat? We

plan to go over to Calais at the end of November, drive down to Torrevieja

in the Costa Blanca, and stay there until our dog can return in March with

his passport in full force.

The problems we have are, we would like to find out some cheap sites to

stay over night on the way down. We tried to get the Aire de Services book

but it is out of print until next year. When we get over the Spanish

border we want to stay as close to Torrevieja as possible for probably

around three months.

I wonder if you could assist us with any advice that you could send.

Any suggestions on the best route would be welcome!

Hope you can help,

Best Advice I can give is

1) Fit a combined alarm - the type that is a anti gassing as well as the usual fire/carbon monoxide alarm. All over France there has been an increase in attacks on Caravans/Motorhomes/Trucks parked in Aires De Services.

2) Don't park up to early as you want find a space amongst other vehicles. Either route ie via Lyon or Bordeaux is nice it really depends on you final destination.

Sorry to sound so pessimistic about the gas issue but my father in-law is a transport manager for a large firm and they have had several drivers attacked over the last few years coupled with reading MMM where you unfortunately I hear the same stories.

Have a safe trip

Regards
