The the tripod stand for a set of worklights but without the lights. If you are going across the water, Bricoman at Boulogne does one for about _11, or failing that any Leroy Merlin albeit they are a tad more expensive.

Also get some wingnuts for the u-bolts on the dish - makes it much easier to put together and take apart.

When fitted to the tripod (can be at ground level if it has a clear view) orientate it so that there is a leg behind the dish and a V at the front, then insert an awning peg over the back leg so the whole thing doesn't get blown over.

Alternatively, get a 1.5-2m ally 52mm ally pole, remove your jockey and fit the pole in there (or fit a second jockey clamp to the A-frame) and put the dosh on that. A 60cm dish is better to use than a Zone 1 (English) Sky dish although a Zone 2 (Scotland) Sky dish will work adequately well.

Don't forget the bird is actually quite high in the sky - a Sky dish on a pole 1m above the gutter at the (relative) back of a house will see the sat over most roofs. Thus, at 1.5m on the A-frame the dish should 'see' over the top of the van.

Now tell us you are using a motorhome.......?

I purchased for the grand sum of a fiver, a photographer's camera tripod from my local charity shop.

Having adjustable legs that go from 400mm closed to 1100mm high fully extended, plus a wind up main shaft giving a total height of 1600mm, and a fully adjustable vertical and horizontal swivel mounting pad, it was easy to fix my satalite bracket to the camera pad and I only had to drill one additional hole.

Super piece of kit that looks like it was specifically made for the job.

Also i would go as far as to say it is also a superior quality item, being chrome plated and painted with hammerite.

Hi with being a DJ.

I use a speaker stand or lighting tripod which are aluminium so lite to carry but very stong to sustaine the weight they have to hold in normal use.

They also extend to give extra height.

Any disco accesory shop or Maplins sell them.

Cheers

John

Hi Reecea, It will depend on your dish size. For my smaller dish I modified a camera tripod, It is very light, comparatively cheap, folds to a small size and it is very easy to align the dish to the sat. Its a simple modification. Remove the camera screw, slightly enlarge the hole and fit a bolt and wing nut. I drilled a hole in each leg and use tent pegs to secure it to the ground.

I use a patio umberella base which we fill with water on site

and an old sky dish from when I had HD fitted at home.

I got a alu pole from B&Q for about a fiver.

It works superb once lined up and secured with a couple of bungees.

Sat dish fit inbetween gas bottles when on the road!

Hi Reecea

Like Chris I have the Maplins kit and used the sucker mount, I wouldn't recommend it though because in a gust of wind it came off and put a dent in the caravan and a large scratch on the car.

I now use a "Hangaway" which you can get from Lakeland (look in the laundry section under clothes airers) it folds neatly into a bag and comes apart top from bottom. I use it at home for hanging my ironing on and when we go away I use it in the awning for hanging wet jackets etc and if we use the dish (we only have tv if there is something specific we want to watch)I use the bottom half for the dish. I have drilled a hole in each leg to take a peg for anchoring it down.
