Excuse my ignorance, but should the 'pump' switch be activated when I use the Aquasource mains water piping direct to the caravan? First time used this weekend and notice the flow from the tap is greatly reduced compared to using submersible pump with Aquaroll.

Your experience of reduced flow when using mains water is not uncommon. The type of pressure reducer valve used in teh hose pipe may simply be unable to match the flow from your pump, but also the low flow may be nothing to do with your equipment, it could be poor flow at the sites tap.

All of the systems I have seen the mains water pipe replaced the pump, so its is simply impossible to use your pump to assist teh flow.

However there is a way round it. You can get kits that allow you to fit a torbeck valve to a water container. This allows you to use your water pump, but the water container is automatically kept topped by the mains supply.

It also adds another level of safety, as if for any reason the mains pressure reducing valve fails ( Which by the way is a very rare occurrence), then the mains flow will simply over flow teh exterior water container and not flood the caravan.

Hi J-D. We find the flow is lower when using a mains adaptor kit, straight into the van. It doesn’t cause any major problems though.
For years, we were cheerfully turning the pump switch to on; and then recently accidentally discovered that you didn’t need to. :p Confirmed by the lovely folks on here.

There are threads on similar sites dating back to 2012 regarding lack of water pressure when using the direct feed from supply. You can buy quite cheaply a hose and float that fits into the side hole of the aquaroll or similar. The pump then feeds the van in usual mode which is automatically replenished when the water level drops in the roll. Mine works a treat when we have the luxury of an individual supply tap!
