Truma Crystal Water System

Having experienced the breaking of the pump connector securing lug on the caravan housing I am about to replace the housing but found that Truma have abandoned the system fitted to my caravan (with the push fit blue filter) to what appears to be the system that was fitted to my previous caravan ( which I had to replace because water came out from round the screw in filter). Has anyone had to make this housing replacement and is the current Crystal system better than the similar looking one of 7 years ago. Any tips for the fitting process.

Cant comment here alun other than to say that the system fitted to my new swift conquerer is not as good as the one fitted to my previous 1999 Challenger. It is now three months old and is giving intermittent problems which I hope the dealer will rectify.

Alun

Had another look at this and its the pump terminals at the point they attach to the van - theta re corroded after 3 months - I think this is unacceptable - will have a word with dealer.

Alun, I think you have previously seen the worst fault with the cylindercal type filter. The thread in the housing is very weak, and very easy to crack by over tightening the filter. The filter body actually has a small lug in the thread to indicate when it is fully home, but it is easy to miss this and over tighten.

Another tip is to ignore the advice to use vegetable oil to lubricate this thread - it runs off too easily, while the residue dries to a stick mess - and use the silicone grease intended for push-fit water fittings. Most of these are approved for drinking water. This stays in the thread much better.

It should be possible to get the filter to seal with finger force only, no Mole grips !
