hi there, i have just took delivery of our new to us van, a 2002 swift lifestyle, we are very pleased so far, and just been playing around getting to know how things work. our truma heater is dual fuel running off both gas or electric. this heater also has ducted air heating thru' out. anyway after trying it out in electic mode a few times it seems to take a good 20 to 30 minutes to start warming the caravan thru, is this correct or this there a secret way to get best performance from it, mine has a thermistat on the wall including a switch that goes 500 - 1000 - 2000. I have tryed all 3 settings. also on the heater itself it has a dial with numbers upto 10, and a switch for off - automatic - and on. my dealer told me if using on electric and using either 1000 or 2000 setting to make sure the dial on the heater is on 2 or above. if anyone can give advice as to the best way to use this heater and comment on the length of time it takes to heat up, I would appreciate it. Also is it best to use gas to warm caravan thru 1st then switch to electric? Many Thanks, Andrew.

When it is really cold I always start mine on Gas and electric together, then turn the gas off when temperature is reached and just run on electric.

The 500 watt setting is usually OK for overnight, when in bed.

The dial 1 to 10 on the right hand side of the heater is the gas settings. This is also the thermostat control for the gas.

The switch Off/Auto and Manual are the blow air fan controls. I usually set this to Auto on 3 or 4 as it blows very gentle until the van warms up, thus not blowing cold air at the beginning. It then speeds up as the van warms.

As rod says I also start off on Gas if its very cold as this is 3500W. With the electric, start at 2000W and turn the wall thermostat up to the highest position 9 for maximum heatup speed.

Regards Jim
