Truma Ultrastore water heater (using A/C)

Whilst caravanning in Cumbria recently, my wife suddenly exclaimed "boy this water's hot; can't we turn down the temperature?" Looking at the handbook under "Electrical operating instructions (230v)", I read with some disbelief that "The water temperature cannot be selected, temperature is automatically limited to 70C."

This is very strange; especially since, when heating by gas, we can vary the temperature from 30-70C. seventy C is really quite hot and certainly too hot for comfort.

So, apart from turning off the hot water heater an hour before it's required; anyone got a solution to this?

This particular anomaly was explained to me when I bought my van and the guy who did the handover suggested exactly the fix you have come up with.

I presume you do not have mixer taps as surely then the temp is not an issue???

I asked about turning down the temp and was adviced that it is this high so as to provide plenty of hot water for the shower once mixed with the cold, i found the temperature was high untill we learnt the correct position for the taps to regulate the temp corectly.

It would appear to be the norm with boilers these days as my new condensing combi boiler at home is also set to a permanent temperature which i think is about 56 degrees, i was told this is now law under new health and safety rules to avoid scalding.

Accurate comments coming from an 'Icemaker'!! but hey you know it's hot so be careful.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's when temperature control was down to how much coal went on the fire to heat the new fangled 'back boiler'. You knew you had overdone it when you could not hear the tele over the noise of the boiler..boiling!!
