I would like to fit one to my caravan. I have 2 options where to take the cable to.

1. Has anyone taken it to the Status Power pack? The external aerial which I will be using is generally the Caravan Clubs booster supply, which can be a weak signal some times.

2.Or do I just take the lead to the rear of my TV set.

Hi Jim/ I hav'nt got a external socket fitted but when I need to use the directional aerial I often plug it into the status booster to give a better picture so I see no reason why you should'nt take it straight to the status power pack.

An ordinary aerial won't have the electronics built in that the Staus has so I'm surprised that it works for Jasper without damaging the boster .But if it does then it does !

With the Sky dish I try to have a continuous cable from the dish to the digi box to avoid losses when using the tripod

I have the coax on a cable winder in the front locker and bring it out under the van through a gap in between the locker floor and the van front

I would do 2 possibly with another booster

Hi Jim

when we bought our van there was an aerial point in the front locker, and then a matching lead in the tv cabinet, have used this now on a few occasions and have not had a problem with signal strength. I did think about plugging it into the status booster but decided to leave well alone. If you are concerned about certain strengths then I would consider buying a seperate booster rather than touching the vans status booster as I think these are only intended for use with the status aerial.

Hope this helps

Ian

Just to put your minds at rest Grade uk tell me there is no problem using the status booster [with the red logo] with a image aerial to boost the signal strength and distribute the signal to aerial points around the van.

Hi All

Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

My main objective is to avoid passing the extension aerial from the CC booster bollard through the bedroom window.

As there may be some risk of damage by connecting the boosted signal to my caravan Booster box, I will fit the External socket to the off side of the caravan and bring it in behind my TV set.

Regards Jim

Jasper as you say the image aerial is OK as this has no seperate boost. But I dont think I'll risk the C.C club boost signal to my vans boost box.

Thank again Jim

Hi Jim,

Last year I fitted one to my van.I mounted the socket under the van (in a convenient safe place ).I ran the cable up to the booster. It's worked a treat. All I do is plug the aerial into the socket and the telly is plugged into the socket in the van.It works a treat.

Hi all.

I'm also thinking about doing this. At the moment I'm using an Image Digital/Analogue aerial running through the window into my freeview box. If I connected to the Status booster would it damage the freeview box?

Thanks in advance,

Phil.

Hi Phil, As I said in the earlier post I run the Image aerial into the status booster as Grade uk advised this was no problem, we use a TV with a integated digital tuner and have have used it connected this way when the signal from the status has not been adequate. As the majority of caravans have a booster of some description fitted I'm sure if there were any problems with freeview boxes it would have been highlighted by now.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

You will not damage anything by connecting via the Status booster, whatever you are connecting to it at the other end.

All you will end with is a stronger signal - this is where the problems could come in when it comes to freeview.

With DTT, you need a good quality signal, but not a high strength one - each time you boost the signal you run the risk of introducing noise to it, this will result in your freeview tuner not being able to decode properly and you will get digital artefacts and blocking in the picture. You may lose the picture all together.
