When we stay in Perpignan we have no problem using our satellite dish until around 190 hours when the picture starts to disappear. Is there anything we can do?

Eileen,

There are so many variables as to why you lost signal, the biggest factor is the size of your dish, Then line of sight to the satelite, the weather, the quality LNB (the bobbly bit on the end of the arm).

If you got good signal & then lost it at the same time every day, then I'd suspect that at that time something crossed your dish'es line of sight and blocked the signal!

when in Frejus we use a 80cm one and have no problems at all.

Thanks GeorgeB - we have an 80 cm. dish and although there are a fair number of tress about it just seems odd that reception disappears in the evenings.

Eileen,

People who use short wave radios to listen to the BBC World Service have known about this type of effect for years - propagation of radio and TV signals is affected by change from day to night - sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse...

Short wave radio listeners have got used to retuning their radios to use a different reception frequency during the day and the night. Either to cut out interfering signals that suddenly improve, or to compensate for signals that suddenly disappear...

It sounds from your case as if the onset of evening is causing the signal to be absorbed by the atmosphere, maybe not completely but enough to cause the fading.

Other people can still receive the transmissions, but since you can't, that does point to the quality of the LNB receiving unit on the dish...

Robert
