Hi

Fed up with the poor reception via my built in TV aerial.

I have seen other vans with the extended aerials attached to the front of the van but my father in law has recently bought a caravan sattellite system (not sky, just freeview) with dish and carry case etc.

I was wondering what peoples experiences of either of these products was like and any recommendations / advice please.

Regards

Andy

Wouldn't be without my satellite system (also freeview only). The only snag is reception on heavily wooded sites with lots of trees in the way. Because I've got a dish which is fixed to the caravan rather than a tripod-mounted one, I have had to move pitch on occasions in order to have interrupted line-of-sight contact with the satellite, but otherwise no complaints. The reason why I didn't get a tripod system was that they take a little longer to set up, they require special measures to anchor them to the ground in case of strong winds and one could trip over the tripod legs but whether you rate these as real disadvantages which would affect your choice is really up to you.

Hi Lutz-hope all is well

Which van mounted dish do you have?

We have the Maxview Semitronic with twin LNB for Sky+

We have also got a tripod as back up but in 12 months have not needed to use it.

There was only one site at Leek that our pitch could not receive Sky and that was fitted with TV sockets on the hook up box.

Have a look at this link for lots on Sky

Re satellite tripods

I just bang a windbreak pole into the ground and use the clamp (Lidl, Maplins suitcase system) to fix the dish at low level in the lee of the van or awning.

Has stayed on signal in some quite high winds and the pole does not move.
