TV reception

If a caravan site has never had a good analog TV reception due to its location will it be better when the digital signal is turned on it that area? Or will there still be some locations that will not be able to receive the digital signal due to the physical terrain?

My understanding of the situation is that there will be areas that suffer from poor signal even after everything has gone digital. Something to bare in mind though is that once the analogue signal is turned off, the digital signal will be boosted. This leads me to think that just because an area is poor reception now, it may not be in the future. Guess only time will tell!

It is highly unlikely the site will get a better picture when they go digital in that area.

Just make it easy if you dont get a picture now you are not going to get one at switch over

This touches on my personal dislike of the headlong rush into digital signals. If you have a weak analog signal you will get a picture of sorts and a fair sound signal and will probably still be able to watch your tv, albeit with a snowy picture. With digital if your signal is marginal you will get nothing, no picture and no sound. Basically it's all or nothing with digital, hopefully the promised boost in signal strength will help matters.

You have one chance with digital, l believe the signal comes in at 24 degree's.

Their is an influx of digital detectors on the market for free view, just invested in one only time will tell if my investment paid off, up to now its been hit and miss but have managed to get a good picture on sites that have good reception.

Did manage to get a signal at Sandringham when they lost the their booster system back in June but if l remember just a few channels, still better than none some had nothing even with satellite.

Like Paullus says the digital signal will be boosted, not sure if that is when all area's have gone digital or when each area goes, if the first we will have a long wait has the last to go digital is 2011 or 12 l believe.

One question is what are the CC doing about the EHU system, l have been told you can't boost the digital signal.

l was sold a new cable at Broadway in July when l asked why the increase in price from

We recently stayed at Bladon Chains and the analogue picture was terrible, only pulled in 3 channels with the Status 530 aerial, so I thought the digital signal would be worse. I had a chat with the wardens and bought an extension to plug into their bollard as they said I would get 90 channels, guess what, the analogue signal was worse and not 1 digital channel at all. So, went and got a refund on the extension cable and decided to have a go at re-tuning the tele which has a Freeview tuner built in and hey presto, we got nearly all the Freeview channels, and the picture quality was superb.

I think that a lot of problems with digital, and analogue, is that people forget that in each new location they have to re tune the TV or set top box to get the available signals.

we have found the 530 aerial to be very good, in a lot of cases better than satellite.

Here in Zummerzet we have gone digital (for the house TV) and have far better signals than we ever had for analogue. I understand that a number of digital only booster stations have been set up. So it may be that you will get better signal on digital than on analogue and this will spread across the country in the next couple of years.

Unfortunately, the general quality of the material has not improved much !

Although i resent being forced onto digital, having bought 2 digi boxs, two Humax hard drives, and two digital tvs, over the last two years.

I have to say going digital is brilliant, so many options, london news 24 hours a day(bbc news), radio stations, etc.

Plus if you have a wide band ariel you don't need to have it changed.

note, the various coax cables can affect reception but should only be noticeable over long distances, satellite grade being better generally.

Does anybody know why, after having found a digital signal, I only received about 6 channels? Admittedly this was in a marginal signal area but I assumed that if I did manage to get a signal then I would see all channels from the broadcast station and not just the half dozen or so, which were pretty good quality pictures.

just returned from a stay at west ayton cc club site that has had its booster system upgraded for freeview and my old lead gave a perfect reception but when i was down at penzance a month ago i could only get 50% of freeview channels and the swith-over has taken place i have been told that a lot of coastal areas rely on a booster transmiter as they can be a long way from the main one and these are not able to transmit all the chanels and the only option is to go satalite

ps.if i had been told of this i would not have gone out and bought a new ariel, mast etc.but invested in a dish etc.
