Is anybody using there laptop to watch tv/freeview, if so do you use the ariel in the van or do you have an external ariel and do you use the 12v outlet rather than the mains. Any info much appreciated.

hi barry

yes I do through a DVB usb stick connected to a external freeview 530 antenna.

it does work but is a little temperimental as there are so many factors to take into consideration the position of the ariel is critical so is signal strength below 60% forget it.

the computer it is connected to also has to be higher end ie; 256 mb vidieo 2gb memory ect as the tv uses vast computer resourses for video streaming.

I am not too sure what you mean about 12v or mains, because the only electrical connection required is the laptops power pack to charge the battery these are 240v mains you can just use the laptop on its own battery power but not for long mine flattens the battery in about 20 mins so I leave the charger plugged in when watching tv.

hope this helps

Colin,

Thanks for the info, what I ment by the 12v out put is that I have seen 12v connectors in maplins for laptops and I thought of using this while on a rally so I will be just using my battery rather than hook up.
