Following an accident we need a new TV.

Wish list, 15" Digital with easy to operate "Station Search feature. capable of running on 12 volt either by step down block from mains or 12 volt in its own right.

(PS our old one was a Nikkai 10.4" seen on ebay. Not bad but a bit tinny in the sound dept.)

Any replies other than the usual "Why have a telly" will be gratefully received.

What brand is it Tugster? Is the picture ok from lots of viewing angles? We need to buy something similar but thinking of LCD Tv & separate DVD/Freeview combination (notice Lord B has a similar set up from his doggy photo on Chit Chat! - Any comments your lordship?!!)

Its Next own brand and comes with 12 month warranty. The pic is very good. I have done alot of research on TV's as I needed one for my home to.

The next one has what I call a glass style screen which I think gives far better picture quality. Some come with a matt style screen and they not as clear. If you go into any electrical store and look at all the screens you will see what I mean.

The DVD is fantastic quality and the Freeview is easy to set up and auto search. Plus it looks the part in gloss black.

If there was anything against the TV it would be the sound could be a bit better. I have to remember it is only a 15" TV and not like my home setup. I would not buy anything else for the money.

Plus the TV is very light.

Claire & Rob, we had a separate TV and DVD recorder when that was shown. The recorder was the one we use at home. What Her Ladyship did then was buy a portable 7" DVD player which she takes with us and the TV in the pic is now in the spare bedroom having bought a Mikomi digital flat screen with built in Freeview from Argos on another forum members recommendation and we are pleased with it.

I believe this is the model and it gives the viewing angle.....

We did have to buy a digital ariel/mast to pick up the Freeview.

We have only used the TV once since buying it but didn't have to use the mast because the site had plug-in TV sockets. The TV worked fine though and found the digital stations ok.

Cheers everyone for invaluable advice.

Really like the look of the Next TV and good to get feedback on Mikomi from Argos as they seem really reasonably priced. Just got to weigh up pros and cons re: all in one (neater & lighter), separate DVD (if it goes wrong, only need to replace that) etc. The digital switchover is having a huge bearing on our choice as all our TV's at home (we have 6!!) are analogue so we'll have to buy freeview adaptors when Yorkshire switches over. If we get a freeview ready LCD for the caravan, one of the kids could use that at home.

Also heard the other day that video recorders will only record what you're watching when digital comes in so considering a DVD recorder with built in freeview to overcome that problem too. We use Sky+ most of the time but it's always good to have an alternative. It'd be useful being able to record while we're away in the caravan too.

Decisions, decisions!!

Word of warning here.

Some of the TV's you see advertised say that they have a 12 volt supply but this is delivered via a smoothing circuit from a 240v transformer. Connecting up a raw 12v feed from the battery can seriously damage the kit.

One more little point you may want to think about. In TV's with built in Freeview, make sure the set can also get analogue reception. Many of the sites struggle to get the freeview signals. Also might want to consider the aeriel, it needs to be directional for the best reception, omni directional sometimes has a bit of a job in low signal areas.

Cheers,

Tom
