We are in the process of buying a used caravan. Originally we were told that the tyres had been changed "A couple of years ago." Fortunately we have had a service engineer give the caravan the once over and it turns out that the tyres are 11 years old and have cracked sidewalls. The tyres are 175R14C 99/980. I can't seem to find this exact specification anywhere - presumably it has been discontinued in the last few years. What specifictaion should I look for to replace the tyres?
Many thanks,

Carol.

The bit that may be causing you a problem, when it comes to finding them is possibly the '980' bit ....it could actually read 98 Q

The 99/98 refers to the load rating of the tyre, in this case the 99 =775kg max & the 98=750kg.

'Q' would be the speed rating, in this case Q= 99mph max.

Have a close look to see if the 'o' is a 'q' , and speak to any decent local tyre centre who will be able to supply them for you.

You should also check the 'maximum technical permissable laden mass' (MTPLM) ...( used to be called 'Maximum Gross weight) of your caravan. Normally found on a little plate by the side of the door, or in the handbook.

For the tyres you have quoted to be suitable the MTPLM must be less than 1500kgs , if it is a single axle caravan.

Try e tyres, we found them very helpful competitive and they come to you. We could not find the tyres on the web until we realised they are van tyres rather than car ones.
