Tyre Wear on Sorento

Hi,

My 18 month old Sorento is showing quite a bit of tyre wear on the edges of the front tyres ( Nearside in particular ).

The tread in the centre is fine.

The dealer has told me it is because of the body roll of the car particularly on roundabouts " and if you drove in France on the other side of the road, the wear would be on the offside." I was informed.

Is this information correct or should I go to to a tyre centre and get my tracking checked ? ( I didn't want to pay for tracking if it wasn't a tracking problem )

Thanks for any advice.

Mike,

There was a recent discussion on this - you might want to use the search facility on the forum - but in summary:

Tracking only checks the wheel alignment forwards and backwards - and any garage should be able to check this - but they'll probably say "nothing is wrong" - and they'll probably be right.

There are other parameters that do need checking though - like the castor angle - and this needs more sophisticated test gear. Basically you need the alignment checked in all three axes - and it's probably the castor angle that's wrong (sitting here looking at my Ouija board)

Hopefully your garage will have the right test gear to do a full alignment test - this appears to be an "issue" with the Sorento

I've got a Sorento...its the best and safest towcar yet...the dealer said to me at the 10 000 service the dealer reluctantly said to me when I went to collect the car that the tyres were a bit receptive to wear on this car...still worth it
