To the moderator:

Could you please amend the sub heading of the UK Parks and Touring to be "Give and get recommendations for the best Uk sites and those not to go within 100 miles off".

I think this will give a more balanced view of the uK sites network, we don't just want to hear about good experiences.

Many thanks in anticipation.

The forum etiquette forbids the posting of individual complaints about caravan parks or other businesses.

This is partly to avoid the risk of litigation, and also the possibility of a disgruntled customer using the forum to make uncorroborated allegations or criticisms.

In all cases, complaints should be taken up directly with the company concerned.

if the said site can't take criticism about its facilities then that site isn't worth visiting, its obvious such sites are not bothered about its clientel, they are in it for the money.

Surely the aim of the forum cannot be just to only post about positive atributes of sites. If there are particular problems with a site e.g. noise, dirty toilet blocks, poor staff attitude, difficult access etc. then surely these should be posted as well. I do not for one moment believe that any site would sue PC or Haymarket magazines.

Surely the answer to any risk of a site suing would be to allow the owner / manager a chance to respond on the forum to the comments aired

I am sure any site worth its salt or one concerned about its visitors would welcome any chance to improve its service or at least if there was a particular reason for a problem to tell everyone why and what so its reputation would not be damaged

On other sites with a caravanning interest, like UKCampsites or Tenting & Touring people post their comments, good and bad, without fear of them being deleted. With Haymarket being a business I believe it is the fear of losing advertising revenue if bad sites are allowed to be exposed in the forum. It all boils down to money, unfortunately also our money too if we are being ripped off by non caring owners out for a fast buck. Looking at it from another point of view if the poster had had a disagreement with a site owner, for whatever reason, he could then post untrue negative comments about the site affecting the site owners business and depriving them of revenue. I can't go along with the notion that Haymarket could get sued though, it's the posters comments, not theirs. About 2 years ago a person that used the MSN Zone site that I use tried to sue Microsoft for comments 15 people had posted about him on their site. He was told he couldn't because Microsoft only hosted the chat so he then sued the individuals, mostly Americans with one Australian. He lost his case because like here people used nicknames and their true identities weren't known to all.

Whooops! I missed that one. Thanks for owning up an declaring it Brian.

You ask "What's the problem". The problem is that it is against etiquette rules to post complaints against named companies.

Look at it this way. Imagine the situation where the 'family from hell' are ejected from a park for anti-social behaviour and decide to take their revenge with a campaign of defamatory posts on caravanning websites.

Litigation is a reality. Last year PCV received a solicitors letter from a certain insurance company after several forum members posted criticisms of their service.

Most of us may not agree with the policy, but the publishers have made it a condition of using this forum so we must just live with it.
