Union Flag

It was wonderful to see all the flags flying for the Jubilee and now the Euro footie thingy, but SO annoying to see so many flying upside down.
I expect it will be the same for the Olympics, I find it strange that people living in the UK don't know the correct orientation.
Perhaps we should have TOP printed on it, but then, if you listen to the news, literacy is a big problem in the UK also.

Driving around today as well as the England flags which are usually visible at football tournaments I noticed that some houses are still bedecked with Union flags and bunting.
Is there a bunting etiquette for Royal Jubilees, like 12th night at Christmas when the tree goes back up into the loft?

I noticed lots of the hand held flags being waved at the celebrations were upside down. Probably made in China or some such place and already fixed to the stick when purchased.

The flying of any flag upside down could be interpreted as a distress signal, with the recession, unemployment, poor prospects for growth and rotten Jubilee weather are the Chinese trying to tell us something?

It took us two days to erect all the buntings , flags etc in our cul de sac.
We took an executive decision to leave them all up until the end of the Olympics. Mind you some blew down earlier in the week
