UP TO DATE NEWS OR 2 MONTH OLD NEWS ?

It has occured to me that there is no where to get up to date information on various matters, as they happen & in real time. For instance I am waiting for a caravan that I have ordered from Glossop Caravans, who suffered a major fire in December. Presumably Practical Caravan magazine will have an article on the fire, but this will be in the March edition, which is ludicrous when you consider it happened in December.

The point I am making, for the editorial staff at the magazine to consider, is why do they not update the Caravan News Section on the site. Taking Glossop as an example, should they not have had a reporter visit the site to take photographs, speak to the management and update us on the situation. I am sure there are plenty of other news items that they would be able to update the site with and that would be of interest to thier readers.

Or am I alone in thinking this ?

The magazine seems to have quite a small staff who to thier credit seem to spend lots of thier time actually using Caravans. If you read the pen pictures of the Caravan Club staff that appear each edition you will may be quite suprised to find caravans rarley appear in thier outside intrests. I would think if any of the readership was to pass Glossop Caravans and take a few pictures and send them in with some sort of report the editor would be happy to consider it, providing there was nothing contoversial in the episode.

The original post, and my reply, referred to the Caravan News Section on this forum, not the Caravan Club Magazine.

wyh go to glossop.
Hello Dean,

Why Not ?

From our point of view it was simple they gave us good advice on our visit and also the best deal. Our local company gave us bad advice, in a flippant way, about a potential towing car we were cosnidering, that would not have been near to the 85%, telling us that it did not matter.

I also notice that Glossop got a runner up spot in one of the 'dealer of the year' competitions, so they must be doing something right. However as they say only time will tell.

Best regards,

George

Dean I am not sure of the etiquette on naming a specific dealer, suffice to say I am in Bedford and they are about 15 miles away in Northamptonshire. I indicated that we were thinking of purchasing my friends Merc CL270D, this has a maximum towing of 1500kgs, whilst the Challenger 570 is 1585kgs. I was already aware of the 85% rule, as I had been purchasing the Practical Caravan, Caravan and Which Caravan magazines for about 3 months. I had also been looking at this Forum, so I had at least the basic understanding of the towing situation, particularly for a person towing for the first time. I have to say having been a sales rep averaging about 50,000 miles annually, this does not bother me in the slightest, however I always try and work with the rules, whatever the situation I am looking at. When I indicated what car we had been considering, we were told 'dont worry about things like that'

My point in raising this subject was that I think this web site could be updated on a regular basis, in the 'News Section' reporting things in real time, not 2 months later in the magazine. Glossop was only used as an example, the fact is that it will not be reported in the magazines until 2 months after it happened.

It appears that you either have something against Glossop Caravans or possibly work for a dealer close to Bedford, I would like to know why you are so concerned about why I purchased from Glossop. I have given you the reason why, so would appreciate you giving me yours, for being so concerned about it.

Hello George,

85% is not a rule, it is only a guideline.

Hi Bedford George

Have a look at Glossop's web site. It tells you everything you need to know. Fire on 21st back in operation 27th December.

If you are worried about your order have you telephoned to enquire?

Cheers

I thought the suggestion there might be a pool of hacks to dispatch around the country was amusing, still, the original question was nonetheless valid.

Apart from normal supplied 'copy' or anywhere else, plus as pointed out, the Internet is full of up to the minute information, not difficult to sift through, then put the most interesting on the PC forum in real time.. and without the cost of employing roving reporters!

It does seem odd that the news from December will be in the March issue but no magazine would ever be able to produce real time news as it happens.

There was in fact a report on this forum about the fireHere as it was actually burning, you couldn't get much more real time than that.

Reporters being despatched with photographers are what newspapers are for surely?
