Is there anyone out there that can help.

We are in the middle of changing caravans. Our current caravan takes an Apache 1040 awning, but the spec on our new Elddis says that the awning size is 1057, which would mean a 1060 awning.

However, our dealer is adamant that the size quoted is wrong and that our 1040 will be OK. Bearing in mind we were prepared to buy a new awning, so by saying what they have the dealer has lost an awning sale!

We can't afford to be wrong on the awning size as we are taking the caravan abroad 5 days after delivery and will need the awning for sleeping.

Anita, sizes are from the ground up through the Awning rail and back to the gound at the other end. Take your existing 1040 from

the new Elddis 1057 = 17 Amd then 1/2 that and that is the diference off the ground at either end.

That is a tiny ammount and your Awning should fit fine !

ps, sounds like a good honest dealer.

If the Van is NEW and should have a routine dealer check at say 500 miles it may be worth asking the dealers advice as I assume you will exceed that sort of mileage whilst away.

Have a great holiday and enjoy the new van.

If you find the awning is a bit short then contact http://www.triopair.com/ .They offer a great service (collection and delivery etc) and extended our Isabella Ambassador so well if the new material wasn't a bit cleaner you wouldn't see where it had been done.

Hi Anita,

Totally agree with euro - the difference in size is less than 20mm - much less than an inch - and the ground is never that level even on a hardstanding.

Enjoy your vacation.

Thanks guys, reading your posts I'm sure we have got nothing to worry about, but as I've mentioned in previous posts, if I had nothing to worry about, I'd worry about that!!!

Hi Anita

I used a 1025 size on a storm(same size as a super storm)and it didnt fit around the curve at the front,i didnt mind this as i didnt want to purchase a larger awning. On holiday last year i had to raise the door side of the van up which caused a problem with the awning not reaching the ground.

Mikey, Thanks for that. It is a Storm we are getting. Based on your experience with your 1025, do you think we will get away with our 1040. By how much did yours not fit?

Anita.

As explained the difference is a couple of inches at either end.

YOUR AWNING WILL FIT !

Raising door side of the van causes many CORRECT sized Awning not to quite reach the ground as some ar not that generous with the fit.

Don't worry it will fit AND BE OK !

Hi Anita

We had to extend the pegging elastics to peg down the awning near the van.The mud flap was just touching the ground.Your awning will be 15cms longer and the van was jacked up 2-3 inches,so you are looking at around 9cms lost due to that.It will fit even if you miss out the front curve and have the gas point outside, for just your holiday,if you are not happy then look at a new awning afterwards.

Mine being a 1025 is too small if i used the whole of the awning rail the mudflaps just touch the ground either side 27cms too much to make where you have only 17cms to make up.

Please remember i am only speaking of my experience with my own size awning and caravan.

Surely the difference is is not 20mm but 20cm which is about 8 inches in old money. Thats 4 inches per side.

Let us know how you get as I'm about to take delivery of a new superstorm and will be buying an awning for it.

If you have to be exact the difference for Anita is 17 cm which in "old money" is roughly 3.25 inches per side. Our spot on correct sized Bradcot is a little long when sat on Flat ground as is our Isabella on out other van all though it supposed to be a little to small (we have two caravans).

So rather than confuse Anita, why not just accept that the darn thing will fit as expressed by her dealer and some of us kindly old hands here.
