Is it possible to use a freeview box - together with the new status directional aerial - in France? I know that if I can it will French TV channels - are they worth watching?

Cheers

Hello John,

Does this box convert secam to pal? If not you will need a multi standard TV which would get about 5 channels on the aerial anyway.

I think the satellite French channels are on subscription so scrambled otherwise.

Not much to watch on the free channels.

The output of a UK freeview diggy box is obviously compatable with the UK PAL system and as the inputDigital Signals are universal it is possible to use a UK TV in France.

On a recent trip to France I took my Panasonic Digital Receiver and a portable TV using a fixed Status aerial. An adjustable on would have given a better response.

In Angers I received 6 channels, in St Emilion 12 and in Biarritz 45 channels.

Along the Pyrenees, Orange in Provence, Bourg de Oisans in the Alps and Macon in Burgundy I was unable to receive any signals.

At Chalons en Champagne I picked up over a Dozen but a Boulogne none.

This would appear to be in line with the Rolluot coverage maps as shown in web site www.tvnt.net/couverture.php and thre may be better coverage next year.

The diggy box menus are displayed in English with the program resume on the Info screen in French but I was unable to get Teletex.

The programs are only of use if you are fluent in French

The only use I found was the BFM News Channel which gave a more localised weather forecast coverage than that provided by Euronews on SKY and with my limited French was able to get the gist of the rolling news headlines at the bottom of the screen
