Using the toilet

Reading the manual it say The toilet can be used with the blade open or closed. To open the valve, pull the valve handle under the toilet bowl towards you. Your Thetford toilet is now ready for use.

Should this be open, closed or only opened whilst using the toilet. The instruction are a bit confusing as to wether it should be open or closed.

We always open the blade first so everything done goes straight into the waste tank. If you leave the blade closed and fill the pan and then open the blade the spalshback will most certainly cover you too!

Every so often I also clean the blade sufaces and apply a dose of silicon spray. It keeps the blade lubricated and ensures a good seal.

You can use the toilet with the blade closed but if you have it open there is less cleaning. When it is not in use keep it closed or you will smell the caravan out.

Put toilet paper in a cross shape on top of slider at bottom of toilet. Do business, open slider, all goes down wrapped in paper. Nice and neat and no skid marks.

Looks like Derek Brad and Kevin have the potential to become Woosies as they don't like No 2s in the loo. What do you think?

Can never understand people not making full use of their toilet as after all either way, it has to be emptied? Never use site toilets as you never know what is lurking in them. After all this could be lurking in there.

The very reason the Woosie club was formed, you must remember King DD

Derek Brad and Kevin will be proposed on the Woosie Club topic in the chit chat section.
So if you both pop along you will be most welcome

I agree. We nealy always use CC CLs and use the toilet as normal, as it was disigned for. Open vavle before use, easy.
I know they are suppose to have a pressure releaf vavle, but they don't work.

The pressure relief valve on a toilet cassette is for emptying to save you having to open the slider before the contents are emptied.
You unscrew the spout cap, press and hold in the pressure relief valve and the difference in air pressure between the inside of the cassette and atmospheric pressure on the outside is equalised thus making the emptying process easier and potentially less messy

Just to prove it takes all sorts....in the 17 years I have owned my caravan.... No solids have passed through the Thetford!!

If the site has a toilet that is what we use and if it hasn't.... we take a simple extra toilet which is easier to keep hygienic and is emptied after any use.

Personally I do not think it is possible to ever completely clean a Thetford hence our method …..but that is just our opinion.....everyone has there own way of doing things...

No blockages when you do it this way

Here are some Photos of how to remove the spout, it needs to be as far round as in photo two & a gentle pull up will remove it from the cassette.
When putting the spout back in, press down as you turn it back round....

No 2s into the Thetford are second nature to us now. Just think of the places you'll miss, eg Grummore near Altnahara Highland

We had friends who never used the toilet, wash basin or kitchen sink in their caravan. They used the stove for cooking and that was about it. Most times they bought take aways. Every 3 years, religiously they traded in the caravan which still had the plastic on the floors to protect the carpets????? They used to live in it full time over January and sued it for one long holiday each year.
Whoever bought the caravan got an almost brand new caravan hardly used and in immaculate condition. To me we have paid for the facilities and use them unlike the person in the letrter section of the CC magazine who stated that 55% of caravanners don't use the shower basing the assumption on them and their friends who never used the caravan shower. he was gettiong the shower removed and turned kinto a cupboard. Wait until he tries to insure it, sell it or trade it in.
