I have just purchased a 1998 Vanmaster Accolade as a mater of course I always have new tyres fitted, today at a tyre fitters I was told the tyres were the original ones but also the Tyron bands wasn't the correct ones for these wheels has any body else experienced this problem many thanks Gary

hi there,
do yourself a favour a get rid of the bands.! tyre fitters hate them with a vengence, and if you ever go abroad you will not get a tyre changed on a wheel with tyron bands, i am serious they are a gimmick and not worth the hassel, i have been there ,done it, and bought the t shirt, they are a nightmare.

Unless you have irrefutable and verifiable evidence when making such claims.
To say "if you ever go abroad you will not get a tyre changed on a wheel with tyron bands" is nothing short of scaremongering.
As long as you have the allen key it is not an issue and even if the tyre depot charge more, they WILL change the tyre and band.
Tyre fitters may not like them, but it is not their wheel, tyre or vehicle.

well what can i say, i am new to this site, so not sure what or who the moderator is, i have the proof of my own experience in france and germany, where i had to get damaged tyre replaced, in the equivelent to kwik fit in france they are called speedy. they would not change a tyre with a tyron band on it due to insurance purposes. also in germany at pit stop . i tried to get the same tyre changed i was told . they dont do tyres with tyron bands. i am not scare mongering, i have travelled in europe for 15 years towing a caravan so i think i can pass on this information with a bit of certainty, and another bit of information that might come in handy, you cannot buy caravan tyres in many parts of france, i had to have tyres sent over from dover. even a city as large as callais you cant buy a caravan tyre, but dont take my word on that, that came from the caravan club.

As it goes, I know a tyre fitter who works for a decent place. Their policy is not to work on wheels which have either Tyron bands or that sealant goo which seems very de-rigeur these days.
So to say that a tyre place WILL replace such items is not quite the whole truth. Many places will not. Given the amount of extra work involved in either working with bands or cleaning up the mess which sealant leaves simply makes the job unprofitable.
Personally I don't use them and look forward to the days when we can have run-flat tyres on the caravan as with a lot of modern cars. Much better idea. It will also be an excuse to hike the price of tyres no doubt. 🙂

I use Tyron bands and will always do so since a friend had a tyre blow out on the M5, he has bands and the van followed him onto the hard sholder with out any problems.
Some tyre firms do not have the equipment to change tyres, but Quick fit mobile fitters all change the tyres but not all quick fit depots do.

Your reasoning for fitting the bands is flawed.
Whilst I am pleased the incident did not result in any injury and there is no doubt that your friend made it to the hard shoulder, There is no evidence that his safe passage was the result of the bands.
There must be literally hundreds of caravanner and other trailer towers who have suffered tyre blow outs and despite not having the bands have made it safely to the hard shoulder.
Equally there are a number of reports that even with the bands fitted, the tyre has shredded and the driver has lost control or caused damage to the caravan
Using your thought process, it would be equally valid to suggest using the same shower gel as your friend!
If you feel that fitting bands gives yo a sense of security the I can';t stop you

the best way to avoid tyre problems with your caravan tyres is to change them every 2 years, check the date on the new tyres when you buy them, give your wheels a quarter turn on a regular basis when the caravan is not in use & carry a new spare, blow outs usually occur on old or poorley maintained tyres, i have never heard of a blow out on a new or well maintained tyre. BUT THIS IS NOT A FACT , IT JUST MY OPINION. and i have been towing all over the uk & europe for 15 years. in that time i have had 1 blow out, and it was my fault. by not following any of the information that i have just given.

Tyron bands, you hear a lot about them from those that 'have a mate who says .........'. All I will say is talk to those that use them. I've had two blow-outs in my 30 odd years of caravanning. The first was many years ago at about 20 mph on a B road. No tyron bands fitted, but not too much of a problem as I was able to pull up quickly and was only a very short distance from a save place change the wheel. The second time was a little different, 5-30pm, 60mph in the centre lane of the M27. Not exactly the best of places but once again no problem, I had tyron bands fitted. Would it have been the same without them? Obviously I cannot say for certain, but I feel a lot happier with them.

tyrons are a brilliant addition if you are unfortunate to have a blow out. they keep the caravan stable and allow for flat running without any damage.

I had a caravan tyre blow out last year at 50mph on the A14 resulting in the van overturning and taking my car down an embankment. We were lucky to get out alive.
I have had Tyron bands fitted to the new van and to a certain extent whether or not they work is immaterial as my family feel saver now than before I had the bands fitted.
One thing I should point is that as with having any additional safety features Tyron bands should not be the green light to go faster than you would normally

hi, i thought tyron bands stopped the tyre running of the rim if you had a puncture. a blowout is not the same and can cause all sorts of damage. ray.
