I have a Vanroyce 410/2 and am having a small problem with the 12v van circuit. Everything works fine on the mains and it all works fine off the car but switch to Van and nothing. I think that there is a part of the circuit that has been wired incorrectly. This is our first van and although and older girl she is in super condition. Can anyone offer advise?

Many thanks

Graham,

I assume you have a multi-meter and a rough idea how to use one? Good.

Likely causes of failure, in no particular order:

blown fuse, corrosion in the fuse contacts - just need to check them one by one (visual or use the multi-meter) - and it's a good idea to give the fuse contacts a thin smear of Vaseline as protection

faulty wire - possibly a wire has become dislodged or cut by accident - no easy way to trace this other than following the wires from start to finish - but since things seem to work OK from the car - you only need to concentrate on the region around the power pack

faulty 12 volt power supply (power pack) - internal fuse or similar fault has disabled the 12 volt transformer

faulty or missing battery - should be easy to identify

Hello Graham,

Rob-jax has identified the most likely potential causes. Two years ago I had to repair a 1993 Van Royce power pack, because the primary winding on the filament wound transformer had failed open circuit. The original manufacturer had already repaid the unit several years earlier, but had subsequently ceases trading.

I had to salvage a toroidal transformer from a alternative manufacturers product and then rebuild the Van Royce unit around it.

Hi rob and John,

thanks for the assistance.

I have tracked the problem down. There are three fuses in the power unit. one is hidden right down at the bottom against the side casing ans is easily missed. This was the culprit. New one installed and all is A OK. Checked the rest of the wiring in case of other issues and found that the Grey multi lead also had loose wires. All fixed now. Once again, thanks for posting some advice.

Graham
