Vanroyce Caravan 1998

We've recently looked at a 1998 Vanroyce 470 EK. It's been well looked after and in good condition, apart from a deep gash, caused by the current owner catching it on a low branch. The gash hasn't penetrated the aluminium skin, but it looks unsightly and will cost a lot to repair. The owner bought it new for about £17K - a lot of money then (and now!) for a 'van. Anyone care to give me a rough guide on it's value, as we're a few pounds apart on what I think I should pay for it, and what the owner thinks it's worth. He's including, for the right price, a 'van mounted motor mover, battery, 1998 Isabella awning & all the other bits. I've had 4 vans before, but have always bought late models or new, credit crunch forces an older van. Everything seems to work ok, and he has a full service history for it.

I would go for it.As you have said the gash hasn,t penetreted the skin this is a easy repair in any body shop or you could do it youself its only filling and rbbing down. You did not say how much??????

Hi Mike

A class caravan but it's still 11 years old.

My priority would be a full damp test and close examination of all seals. At this age it is possible the sealant may need replacing. Check the age of the tyres too.

As for the gash I'm no body panel expert but I do know repairing aluminium surfaces and repainting to a high finish is not the easiest of tasks.

Haven't you got a friendlydealer in your area who can give you some numbers from his Glasses Guide?

Hi Vanroyce were good in their time-but time has left them looking dated and the 98 models were made by Autotrail not the original Vanroyce team, so care and attention wasnt quite the same. Plus its 11 years old, they were good but now look dated and therefore I would be looking at around the

I've always been very wary of these so called 'quality' vans, as they are/were built in almost the same way as the more popular brands. (Possible exception being Carlight) They also us the same component parts and seemed to suffer the same problems as any other van. They sometimes threw in a set of mongrammed drinking glasses or a re-chargeable Hoover thing, but I could never understand why people would pay so much premium for what was basically the same as everything else, and often appeared as though it was designed in the 1950's. Except though, I suppose badge snobbery extends beyond cars and into the world of caravans......

You have already answered your own post.

Its overpriced compared to dealers.

Panel repaires are expensive.

But the decider for me is the comment about panels coming apart!

I wouldnt have it given.
