The zafira has a kerbweight listed as 1380kg and a maximum towing limit of 1300kg. with the 85% rule applied this gives about 1170kg. My friends 1993 lunar premiere 5 berth has an unladen weight of 780kg and a max laden weight of around 1000kg, as this van is very similar to the venus I would imagine it will be well within the cars limits, physically and legally.

hope this helps

Ben you are a diamond, have now secured the sale of the van and can move up to a twin axle six berth...yahoooo
No probs, happy to help. Just found that the venus is a bit heavier than a premiere but still not a problem for the zafira.

Note for Ben.

85% is not a rule. It is not found in any regulation or legislation. It is only a guideline.

Despite my comment above, I do agree that it is a sensible starting point.

Thanks John I am aware it is not law, it was merely a turn of phrase. On the other hand I do know of someone who was fined for towing a caravan which was around 95-99% of the vehicle weight. He tried to use the argument in court and lost.

Hello Ben,

I am not familiar with the circumstances of your aquantentces court case, but he would not have been in court simply because he was over the 85% guideline (it is not an offence de-facto), The case against him must have been some other feature of his outfit or driving, and his exceeding 85% is purely incidental - unless his vehicle only had a manufactures Maximum Permitted Trailer Mass of 85% which would be a legal limit.
