I am so annoyed by this I have started a petition on the Government web site.

Did you know that the new VED announced in the budget today is retrospective and will affect old cars back to 2001. If you have a larger car you will be affected and will face a road tax of around £400 from now.

If you want to sign the petition please go to: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/UNFAIR-VED/

and sign up.

This will seriously damage the second hand car market and also our hobby and other leisure industries where a larger car is needed.

Remember - this is not about 4x4 cars - it will affect ANY larger car, including estates and MPVs - petrol or diesel.

Jon (Mr Angry from Bedford).

"Did you know that the new VED announced in the budget today .."

Actually, this was set in Last years budget and has only just come into effect.

It will only effect cars that have are of band G i.e. over 226 CO2 (g/km)

"Most" cars (even large ones) are under this figure.

Well done Jon. I'll be voting.

To be frank it's a disgracfull government rip off.

What do you do sell the car?, I think not who would buy it. And if it did sell it would still be used by someone else, so there would be no saving in emmisions.

If it did sell you would lose so much you might as well keep it and pay the Tax.

Would you scrap a car a couple of years old? that realy would save the planet wouldn't it.

The government knows we have no choice but to pay, and it becomes obvious from a reply above that there will be little or no support for the group of vehicles they have chosen to persecute.

My 2.9d 226 g/km MPV does over 42 mpg and a max of 6k miles per year. The total annual polution of my car is way less than the average family saloon doing 12k per year, but I'm one of those persecuted.

I agree with the tax on NEW high polluting vehicles, the purchaser has a choice whether to buy or not, but for those who already own we are simply targeted to subsidise MP's second home expenses at
