Neill, we are also looking at this area for our first trip abroad next year, last week of july first week of august, like you we will be travelling with other vans all three being just short of 8 meters. ive enquired with the clubs and also with sites abroad and a few other "specialists" and had come to the conclusion that it was just too expensive since we where being quoted anything up to 1800 pounds with fuel and tolls on top it was much cheaper to get a package tour. However i decided to try and book everything myself starting with the ferry, what a shock poole to cherbourg 756.00 for a five hour sailing tried some of the other routes all far too expensive, then out of desperation i tried euro tunnel found it very easy to use the web site and got a quote for the 05 58 sailing of 98.00 the same fare was quoted for the return. now i can handle 196.00 return and its only an hour and a half on the train, ok its an extra 250 mile drive to the vendee but ive saved 3 1/2 hours on the ferry and no way will it cost me 550.00 in fuel (more like 50.00). so thats the crossing sorted now the site, the only sites i can get any reasonable quotes from are the ones owned by st jean de monts, 1; camping les amiaux 2; camping acapulco 3; les places dorees. all the sites seem quite lively which is what we want with 6 teenagers going with us. all the other sites i have looked at will not give quotes online and im a bit reluctant to ring as my french is limited to 0 so i am hitting my head on the wall again. if any body can give any advice on any of the sites that Neill or myself have named i would be very gratefull or indeed if you know of a site that you think would be ideal let us know. ps, euro tunnel accept car and caravan combinations up to a total of 18 meters long and charge no extra as long as you are within this limit.

Hi we went to La Loubine last July/August and had a great time, with kids 14,8,6. Its lively clean site but does tend to be more geared up for teenagers in the evenings, nothing much for the younger ones. Great pool area (dont forget your speedos or the pants police with get you!)

If you have all teenagers it will suit you great beaches as well. We have a 7m van as well and had no problems pitches are more than big enough. Hope this is of some help, if want anymore info please ask.

Hi again,

we actually went down to a site in the Vendee this year, namely Le Pin Parasol, we thought it was an excellent site, my six year old loved it as did 5 teenagers as they met up with plenty more in that age group. The only they said was that there was not too much for them to do at night other than chat.

This site had enourmous pitches and suited us adults just fine. This year we are hoping to again use the Portsmouth-Caen crossing, i've had one quote for just over

Hi Judy,

we found Le Pin Parasol to be a great site an excellent pool area however with the outside pools on the cool side but refreshing. The pitches were massive, weather great in August and absolutely no problem with mossies. overall a great site for a relaxing holiday, with great facilities.

Hi, We went to the vendee a few years ago (the wet year lol!) and loved it round Jard dur Mer but it's not really a teenagers dream ... Les Sables L'Onne was a lovely town and La Tranche was a pleasant lively resort too .... It's a nice seaside area if you're just looking for beaches .... more reliable with weather than Brittany but not so scenic

I don't know these ones but I suggest if you've got kids and teenagers in particular, you should go with Eurocamp Independent. We used to go with Eurocamp before we had our own caravan and they provide great facilities for kids. With Eurocamp Independent, you take your own van but can benefit from all the onsite kids clubs which are fantastic - on some they even have clubs for the teenagers. We went to Les Biches a few years back and it was excellent - kids had best holiday.
