Very slight water seepage from carver crystal filter housing

Has anyone else experienced this problem with their carver crystal water filter/inlet. Water seems to seep through the "O" ring and to the outside of the housing - not a massive amount though!

Van is new and therefore I trust so is the filter. I did put a little vegetable oil on the rubber "O" ring before using for first time - as recommended. Was this a good idea or is it better "oil free"?

Advice/solution appreciated.

Hi John,

Keep going with the vegtable oil. I don't know why but we have to do the same every season. Even replaced the seals on ours and we still had to put the oil on the O ring.

Cheers Rob - but I don't think I made myself totally clear!! The oil was put on before first time usage and therefore I am wondering whether or not it was this that has caused the seepage. Also, are you saying that you have also had this slight seepage, and that adding oil stopped this?

John, have you checked the housing itself it is I am afraid a common fault for it to crack if the filter is overtightend and it is often only a very thin crack whick only becomes visible if you tighten the filter even more (not a good idea)the new housings are not very expensive, readily available (that says it all really) and easy to replace.
