If you want to keep going as a motorist

Please read and act on this.

Petition address at the bottom, and cut and paste to everyone you know on your email adsress book.

Tell the numpties in power where they can stick yet more tax on Motorists and don't let the greens persuade you that you will be better off under the proposals. You will not be !

" Say "No! to new travel tax

Democracy in action !

The Government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.

The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver.

A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

On top of this MASSIVE INCREASE IN TAX, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times.

They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible.

Send it to everyone you know "

I happen to know that a friend of mine is currently trialing such a device as the company he works for is trying to get the production contract for the devices.

Surely this is invasion of privacey and defendable using current law?

Naturally I've had my defiant say on this.

We get taxed more than enough today without more strangulation of our wallets being applied.

Just an aside to this, as we were coming back from our New Year away in the van a report came on the radio stating the well above inflation rises in rail ticket prices were to "ease overcrowding"

So we're being priced off the roads to encourage us to use public transport at the same time as being charged more to use public transport becuase too many of us are doing so!

You really couldn't make it up.

PS How come if everything goes up by more than inflation, inflation remains steady and "on target"?

But have you signed the petition and passed it on?

As for the inflation Millies Dad, I think like most government figures it has a lot to to with Mr Browns magic circle membership, Bulls and their waste product !

Millies Dad

"How come if everything goes up by more than inflation, inflation remains steady and "on target"?"

Because they are expecting inflation to rise hence interest rate rises.

Most world governments including US, UK, Eurozone and Japan use interest rates as a tool to tailor inflation and growth to meet their targets - it is all a compromise to maintain or gain position in world economy.

Targets are (as you suggest) always fairly ambiguous at best and finger in the air at worst.

My bet goes on another UK interest rate rise next month.

Cris,

sorry, yes i have - did it before writing my post.

Garry, understand what you say but my point was that if prices for things that we all have to buy, gas, electric, oil etc go up by for example 10% how does inflation remain at 2%?

Call me a cynic but could it be that benefits and pensions increase in line with inflation rather than the true cost of living?

I think it is a brilliant idea as it will mean I can leave the 4 x 4 at home and use a smaller cheaper car to get to work. Also if the car gets nicked they can catch the yobs and beat ten barrells out of them. Obviously the cost of fuel will come done to compensate and your insurance premium will also come down. Get a life as no government would be brave enough to introduce this forcibly as they will be out at the next election. Guess this is another scare story by the media.

151646 have signed the petition so far.

Don't become a numpty Ian. This is a chance for a few million motorists to land a petition on the numpties in powers doorstep that says motorists are no longer prepared to be walked on!

Chance of other motoring costs being cut if this were to come in are about as big as our service men being home to good housing with a bonus to spend after their time in Iraq and Afganistan by Christmas ---------------------------- ----------------------------- Christmas 2005!

Tried that again only to find the web page was experiencing problems - again! According to a newspaper report so many tried to log on a few days ago the site crashed. Will keep trying though.

Crashing web site is convenient for Tony and his crew !

The'll probably keep that up so they can rig the vote and say hardly any motorists were bothered.

We already pay road tax, fuel tax, parking charges, VAT on everything including the car itself, now the government would like to charge us per mile to use the roads. They would even like us to pay for a tracking device so that they know how many miles we've done, where we have been and at what time we went there. They would charge us to have sex if someone could design a meter for it! WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH! Some darned fool even suggested that they would use the revenue to support public transport, well as a Public Service Vehicle Owner Operator I can assure you that there is no way this lot will hand over any monies to the bus industry. If you look at the enormous additional costs that we have incurred since labour came to power with the ongoing extra legislation, all they have done is make bus travel more expensive.

Over a 158000 now !

Well done BeemerMal. A few of my contacts are hitting some big web sites with it and if everyone on email address books signs up they should get a few million to tell Blair and Cameron and anyone else where to shove their plans to rip us off again.

Ian mentioned the point about better recovery of stolen vehicles. Forget it mate.

They are only tracking your wallet to tax you on the use of the car and the fuel that you've already been taxed on!!

If they realy want to charge the population fairly for use of the roads then scrap road tax, scrap vehicle excise duty (road tax discs) and put a penny on fuel.

At least everyone (including the most notorious tax dodgers) will pay their share. Ohby the way, I do around 35K miles per annum half of that in an economic town car.

The tax dodgers don't all live in chrome caravans either, certain landed gentry also believe they are above the law and some hauliers "forget" to pay excise duty on their artic trailers.

By virtu of the fuel consumption rate alone the bigger the engine and the heavier the vehicle then the more fuel you consume, therefore contibuting an appropriately higher level of tax for maintainence of the highways.

Steve.

I thought that the British were renown for their sense of humour. My post was very tongue in the cheek and no I don't support any form of over taxation where they milk the cash cow, the motorist, but I think that most petitions are a waste of time as the goverment probably use them for toilet paper.

More direct action, but not violence, is required. The type of action that shakes society and makes the government look bad. The truck drivers did it a few years by blockading London and the government back off raising taxes on fuel for sometime. Imagine the chaos if motorists descended on Sedgefield and parked their cars in the middle of the road and then walked off. Very embarassing for a certain party member. It worked quite well in the country where we lived prior to coming back to Britain.

Unless you are a special case and are not on the electoral register it only takes a few seconds to find your address for very many people.

If you have a mobile phone you can be tracked and all your bills and credit cards and debit card owners will have sold on your information. Even details from the likes of nectar cards tell a whole raft of people about your perchasing ahbits and your address.

A bit late to worry about your address now ! Even who we vote for can be checked on if they wanted and thats supposed to be a secret to.

ref Ian's suggested action. When the lorry drivers went on strike in the early eighties, a union rep said the strike was not neccesary. All it needed was for every driver, cars, buses, lorries, to take his/her lunch break at the same time,ie 1.00pm wherever they are, be it the middle of the M1 or the middle of town, everyone just stop for 45mins. At 1.45pm, all start up again, then do it again the next day, and so on. Can you imagine the chaos it would cause? it will never happen, of course, but boy what a mess if it did!
