Go out of peak season and almost anywhere is peaceful in France. Also take a look at the www.campingcheque.co.uk website, select 'Our campsites' and then have a look on the map of France. There are several sites in the Loire - La Citadelle in Loches is a good place to start - and all sites will cost only

We have got 2 weeks booked in the Loire in August - cant wait never been to that area of France before apart from an overnight stop once en route to the Vendee from Calais.

Anyone got idea what the weather normally does in this area in August? After 2 wet weeks in Cornwall last year and having looked at the forecast for next week in Devon (off tomorow for a week!!)Im getting the distinct impression that we are rain gods!! Getting desperate for some sun!!

We,ve been to the Loire Valley for the Past 5 years and can highly recommend Camping Le Moulin Fort. It is in Francuiel, about 1km from the Chateux of Chenonceau, right on the Bank of the Cher.

Owned by an English couple, it has 120 pitches and is very peaceful indeed, but with a pool, crazy golf, play area and kids club, the children are well catered for too.

This is their websitehttp://pagesperso-orange.fr/moulinfort/moulinfort/

Graham - Evans of Sprot is referring to the 'forum etiquette' that typing in upper case, (CAPITAL LETTERS) is considered to be 'shouting' and therefore not good forum manners - but newcomers to these forums may not know that.

There are plenty of good municipals in the Loire, at such as Anger, Samur, Tours, Orleans and on the edge, in Bourges. If you want to go out of school hols, early July is good, and there are usually big firework displays (Tours for one) on the evening of July 13th. July 14th (Bastille Day) however is a public holiday so shops are shut but roads are incredibly busy. If 14th is a Thursday many people also take the Friday off and have a long weekend.

Otherwise as said elsewhere, early September, especially in eastern France can be pleasantly warm but quiet.

Like the Plotter, I have stayed at Chateau des Marais. It is a really nice site (if on a bit of a slope) and has a good pool.If you take bikes with you it is a lovely cycle ride to Chambord through the forest. It is near the town of Mer, which has links to the motorway and other main roads to take you elsewhere down the Loire.
