how many volts does car put out through the grey socket when car is running mine is 14 volts is this about right

Most car alternators output a regulated 14.8v - allowing for slight voltage drop and rounding to remove the decimal, then 14v at the grey socket with engine running is spot on.

Suggest you check the alternator output at the battery and then compare this to the 12S output, I would hope to see no more than 14.4v at the battery so 14V looks good to me.

The real test though is at the fridge this being the biggest drain and quite possibly the longest cable run, if you can get 13v+ here your doing very well.

I might add a voltage reading means nothing unless the circuit is under load. You can have 14v just checking it off load at the 12S while the vans disconnected, but hooked up with the fridge/battery charging on, this can drop to little or nothing if the wiring is not up to scratch.
