Does anyone know if the towbar on a pre-2000 model volvo V70 will fit a post-2000 V70? Need to change my trusty old tug and would like a newer version, would be good if i can save the cost of a new towbar!

cheers!

The Bosal catalogue shows 3 part numbers, one for pre-2000, one for March 2000 to August 2007 and one for post-2007, so I would presume that it wouldn't fit.

Lutz is bang on it will not fit, if you are going for a V70 second generation, at all costs avoid the 2.4 petrol in auto guise and go for the D5, a far beter car for towing, had them both.

Whether or not it would fit, and it seems it won't, it is not a good idea to swop towbars. It is required to do a hefty job and I would feel the peace of mind to get a new one would be worth it.

On the difference between the petrol or diesel models it is not as clear cut as has been suggested. Yes, the diesel is a better tow car but you have to decide how much towing you will actually do. The diesel models are usually more expensive and often have higher mileages compared to the equivalent petrol. There has also been some issues with injectors on early D5 models.

I have a petrol S80 and can say that yes, I use more fuel when towing but over a year it amounts to about

Can't afford one. Looked at a 05 model with 60k on the clock and they wanted 9 grand. My existing car has only 50k on the clock but is a lot older and drives like a dream.

Also had a look at the reviews of the D5 and yes, it is a good tug, but noisy. If someone can give me one as a freebie I will take it, otherwise I will stick with what I have.
