Hi,

I have recently bought a diesel geartronic just before christmas. Its a lovely car all trimmings & comfort etc a bit thirsty on diesel though, only doing about 25mpg around town but returns 34mpg on motorway at around 70mph.

Just moved up from a D5 V70 which used to return about 32mpg around town.

Just had towbar fitted last friday so yet to tow with it at Easter.

I would be interested in anybodys comments too about towing with it etc & town driving does 25mpg sound about right.

a few weeks ago when it was a cold week it only returned about 23mpg

Hi,

I had until recently a 55 plate XC90 D5 with the 5 speed geartronic gearbox (163 BHP), good family car and good for towing, as for fuel, when solo I was getting 23-25 around town and 36-38 on a run (70 mph with cruise on)

I sold the car due to running costs and for the first six months it was back at the dealership for some niggles to do done to it (luckily under warranty), but due to high fuel costs spending on average

I don't know if you are still looking into an XC90 or not. We bought an '04 manual version last Easter and love it (it is ideal for our four children).

We towed our Bailey Senator Carolina (six berth, twin axle0 with it for the first time over Easter and it towed it really well - I was able to stay at 65-70 mph for much of the time in sixth gear. It returned about 24 mpg.

I have been told that the geartronic versions are a bit slow on take off. That is my one complaint with the manual version. You really have to give it some revs to get it shifting. If the geartronic version is worse than the manual, I would steer clear of it. We took the children out for a walk the other day in the Brecon Beacons and had to go up a very steep track (half tarmac, half track). The bend was blind and it was really difficult to get the jeep up it without stalling - as I was trying not to go too fast in case of something coming the other way. If I had revved it and not worried about what was coming the other way, I am sure it would not have been a problem.

I always wanted the manual version, as I don't trust expensive electrics.
