Going to check today to see if it needs a service because i have done 18,500 miles and MOT due in June
Some VW models, perhaps all, use a metric distance of 15,000 or 30,000 kms to trigger the dashboard display for servicing, ie 9,320 or 18,641 miles even though the documentation for UK models specifies 10,000 or 20,000 miles.

Time for a discussion with the dealer

The miles covered and oil change is very misleading imo.
Back in the 90 s I covered approx 30 k pa. The car cruised at high legal speed all day, in top gear , no braking etc for hours. .Those cars went back after three years, over 100k and sweet running. Oil was changed every 10 k. I’m certain that combination prolonged engine life. Talk to the guys who own the high mileage Volvos. Don’t spare the oil and filter changes

Looks like the next owner will have struck "gold". What tyres did they fit?

Its well recognised that vehicles that tend to run longer distances (such as the old rep mobiles) at near constant speeds often survive better than those on stop start short journeys.

These days its possible to monitor the condition of the oil and other items and based on actual wear characteristics some vehicles can determine when it needs a service, rather than simply relating the interval to only time and or distance.

The advantage of such a system is it should only call for a service when it is needed, and it should reduce wastage. The disadvantage for some is you cannot put an annual service plan or budget in place.

Do those cars which have oil changed when advised by onboard analysis still get a FSH on mileage /time ? I assume the usual other servicing items will still need regular checks. Oil cost me nearly £80 last time and only covered 9000 miles , mostly towing. Got me thinking now Prof🤔🤔

AFAIK the VW system in the Touareg starts with 30,000 km and counts down, increasing the rate if usage is a lot of cold starts - although that may be an over-simplification.

I don't begrudge the relatively high cost of the interim oil change as my Touareg is a keeper

That would be down to the particular manufacturer's instructions and terms and conditions for the specific model you have. Inevitably there will be some items that cannot be checked automatically, so they may require an annual check/service. Check with your supplier.

Crikey the garage could have fitted suitable but less expensive tyres. The Pirelli’s are around £160-£180 a corner fitted at tyre specialists. What were you charged by the VW dealership. Whoever buys your Tiguan will have a good motor car.

Did you ask for the tyres to be replaced ? And did you have to pay for them, I would not have bothered if I was getting rid of the car.
When examined nail in 2 tyres front and rear with this choices limited priory on road safely so happy to pay bill willingly

Don’t tell Mercedes owners that Hankook (OEM) are mid range other than perhaps in their pricing especially when Hankook all seasons have consistently come at or near the top of all seasons tyre testing. . Now where do Pirelli all seasons come ??

We had Pirellis on our S80 and while road holding was excellent, for some reason it seemed to attract nails and in the space of a year had to replace both front tyres due to the location of the nail in the tyre.
