Waeco cool boxes

Any good? If so, do you have the T-series (for Northern Europe, cooling to 20deg below ambient temperature)or TropiCool (for southern England/Continental Europe, cooling to 30deg below ambient temperature?

We need to get a cold box for the awning, which would run from the plug in the caravan box. The temperatures we experienced recently while camping in Kent (35deg inside caravan/31deg ambient)made our caravan fridge work overtime and it couldn't cope and we had to throw food away. We took the outside vent covers off to help with the airflow and also wedged the caravan door, to stop it opening out fully, as it covers the vents when fully open.

We always turn the fridge on a few days before we go away, to get it really cold and only put cold things in it from the fridge at home and always leave plenty of space for circulation. The caravan by the way is only 2 years old.

Our thinking is, if we keep all drinks in a cold box, we wouldn't be opening the fridge door so much, which would help keep the temperature down inside it. We've even wondered about getting our dealer to fit a cooling fan inside.

Anyone else had this problem in the recent heatwave?

We use a Weaco CK 40 compressor cool box, its works on leccy only but is excellent even when used in the awning in Spain it still freezes very quickly...

Hi

I purchased the Waeco CoolFreeze 35 earlier this year after same experiences also fitted a Vento double fridge fan to the upper exhaust vents of the caravan fridge.

The Coolfreeze can work all the way down to -18c so we used it as an additional freezer to the caravan freezer compartment.

No problem in temps into the mid 30s in South of France during May/June this year. Also fridge fans kept the fridge at good temp.

You may not like the price tag of the Waeco - but saved us a fortune on buying very expensive meat on the Continent (up to 50% more expensive this year than same thing in UK).

Prior to Weaco we used a coleman chest coolbox, we bought 2 x bags of ice per day from the site, this works out expensive at _3.50 per day for 20 days...

We hadn't considered a cool box with a freezer section. Presumably these boxes are quite heavy when loaded. Do they have wheels? Are they noisy when running?

No not noisy, they are not light though as you have a compressor built in. It does not have a freezer section, the whole unit can freeze, you just set the temp to freeze or as a fridge..
