Warin user in France- Help please

I have recently joined the ranks of those taking Warfarin permanently. I can see some difficulties in taking my normal 7/8 week holidays in fFranc, has anyone else found solutions?

Hi Stuart,

And theres me thinking this was a towcar forum - still never mind. Most of us ancients have similar problems. Last year I spent almost three months in Spain - I just talked to my Doctor and got him to write an extra prescription just before leaving. My medication happens to be three month supply any way so it was just a matter of timing.

I'm sure your Doc will be just as accomodating if you give him the story. My Sister inlaw, who has MS, takes megger diferent pills and stays abroad up to 8 months of the year for various periods and never has a problem - her Dr is most understanding and is only too happy to help.

Have a nice holiday and don't lose your pills - now that could be a prob but take a copy of your prescription if you are worried and the new Euro health card - a French Dr would be able to prescribe based on that and it would not cost too much I think.

If you have just started taking it, has the dose been checked, or have you been told how to check the dose is correct? I think you must talk to your doctor or specialist to make sure, as you probaly know, if its to high, then your blood will not clot fast enough, and if its too low, it may clot as a result of your condition.

I know that balancing teh doseage can be difficult, my father bless his soul, also had to use it, it he had to maek regular visits to teh doctor to check the doseage.

Sadly I am also about to go ont a lifetime of wafarin, as I need a replacement heart valve.

So please kep us posted.

my wife who has been diagnosed with a faulty heart valve (found after a car accident)

whilst booking a holiday we found that to go abroad (Italy) would cost

Hi Stuart welcome to the warfarin club i am only 34 and on life

long warfarin.I go for a check up every 8 weeks which allows me

to tour for longer time.As with all health matters its better to

speak to your gp Stuart he should steer you in the right direction.
