There have been some very "prudish" replies on this topic. It is a fact of life that we all wear clothes and at some time or other the clothes will need washing. The site we were on in France there were many people who had make shift washing lines from trees, etc. and no one complained. I cannot afford to go away for a few weeks and have sufficient clothes for my self and family so as to save all the dirty washing for when we get home. The type of washing can vary from underwear to shirts, blouses, etc. We all wear clothes and see underwaer every day in shops, advertisments, etc. so why not on a line. Next thing there will be hue and cry for emptying the toilets and waste water containers as these are unsightly and personal. Hell get a life and join the real world and not worry so much. Incidently if a CC warden was to tell me off for having washing drying outside my line he would soon be hearing my views in plain English (I would not swear at him but would certainly let my feelings be known).

Hi will,

We have a fold flat linen line, when erected you hang the washing through the metal rods that cross over to both sides, both ends fold back to enable you to hang more washing, its a bit like a the size of a ironing board when erected.

It cost us

I bought the best washing machine going at the time, and had it for 35years.

I can use it at home or in the van.I just leave my dirty clothes at the side of the bed & they appear in my wardrobe & chest of draws a couple of days later imaculate.

With lots of loving care & attention should last a lot longer.

Ouch my wife has just read this & said I might need a new one soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-(

Hello Everyone,

Quite a range of replies here.

As I mentioned in an earlier post that someone on holiday said that he had used one of the lines I mentioned quite a few years ago. SWMBO said that she thought she had read a post on here about them. We just wanted to see what they were like.

Like everyone else we too need to wash and dry clothes if we go away for 2 weeks so there is a need for something to dry the clothes on.

Thanks for the replies

Will

When i go next to a CC site i am going to make sure that i have the biggest washing line i can find, then on it i am going to place all my smalls, and i even hope i am pitched next to Eric. In fact instead of washing my clothes before i go i am going to wash them there because correct me if i am wrong CC sites also privide washing machines on some of their site,`when i joined they never mentioned that washing lines are out. Its people Who take pleasure in making other feel stupid or degrade them of doing what we all do with our washing, drying it! I suppose no one can see your washing when you lot hang yours out at home then. Your neighbours haven't got rear windows or can see into your Garden.

GROW UP!

I have just read through the postings, and find it very funny that people get so polarised by such a normal every day thing.

If, to save the planet from all this man made Global Warming, everyone washed clothes by hand and dried them by the biggest heater ever known to man, when it shines, think of all the greenhouse gas saved from being released, and even better, think about the loss of revenue to the power companies!!!

The ultimate answer to not drying clothes on a camp site and the proliferation of rotary driers and clothes lines is simple,,,,,,don't wear any!!but i guess even then someone would complain.

".......and just what is wrong with going to the showers in your dressing gown? ;-)"

Well I will make sure I go to the shower block on the other side of the caravan field wearing only a posing pouch (shall I wear my crocodile, or my dragon ..... :) ), or should I wear my speedos that are too small, not sure .... with my sandles (oh and wearing white socks of course too.

I'm glad there are about as many people taking this with a pinch of salt, as seriously !!

:)

I Have two points to raise on this matter and they are relating to the postings from Damian and Rubix.

First of all Damian I am all for not wearing clothes on site - just think of it NO WASHING LINES - the answer to all previous correspondents.

Now Rubix prey tell me what is wrong with wearing white socks with sandals - I always do it. I find it uncomfortable to wear shoes without socks and as for flip flops well they can be binned straight away. Regarding speedos and posing pouch I am afraid my figure (or wife) would prevent me from wearing these. When dressed my figure does not look to bad but when in a state of undress it just falls out over the top of my shorts/trousers/etc.

I am asuming we all have a sense of humour, and as Caravanning is as I am sure Clarkson would say "an old farts game" I was just re-iterating what others have said about certain older citizens (in general not on this forum).

If I have offended you Colin, I appologise, as I can undertsnd your discomfort.

I am proud of my "old-fartyness" and at 31 years "OLD" I dont give a "BLEEP" what others think as we are all individuals.

I neither wear speedos, posing pouches, sandles with socks. I do have a caravan, drive an estate car, and my sister who is only 5 years older than me always tells me I am turning into my "even-older-fart" of a dad, and takes the mick that I listen to radio 2 (long live Terry Wogan !) She lists to *spit* Radio 1 *spit*

Now lets all have a laugh (whilst dancing around our jockey wheel mounted airers) :) LOL

I have just re-read my own post and it may be that some people may be upset by me refering to them as "old-farts"

Well as they say, you are as old as you feel.

Rubix I am not in the least offended - my reply was meant in a humourous way as my grandchildren reckon I am becoming a grumpy old man. Being just over 60 years of age I was brought up wearing socks and cannot now change a lifestyle- although I am retired (early retirement I hasten to add - not 65 yet) I still wear a collar and tie and when we go away in the van I insist that I take at least two ties with me. As for Terry Worgan I listen to Radio Wales and he has not infiltrated that yet. However it is not so good in the morning since they have moved Roy Noble to the afternoon slot. To old now to dance a jig around the van but maybe a waltz or some other more conservative form of dancing.

Colin,

That's good you took it in jest, text is so difficult to put over emotions (good or bad)

Damn, that makes me sound like more of an old fart than you Colin, and you're twice my age !

Ah well maybe I am (Go Wogan !) Is that a bit more modern and cool, or is it sick now, I can't keep up with the young-uns now (ahhh there I go again)

It isn't like it used to be ....

The music now is just all thump-thump !!!

Ahhhhh .......

At present listening to a compilation of 1960s music - my era. Decent music where it is possible to appreciate the words and music.
