Does any one use Ariel Bio Gel at home on a cold water wash and if so are the results good? Thinking of switching to save on electric costs. We have used Omo cold water washing powder previously, but you cannot buy it in the UK. Thanks.

On our machine “ cold” is not cold from the tap. It is heated to 20 deg C. We then have 30 deg C and upwards to choose from. We generally use 30 deg C. But find the product not too different from others. Looking at my wife’s hidden stash of chemical warfare products it’s Fairy Non Bio this week. Must have been on offer somewhere.

You may find Aerial link of interest because they aren’t actually describing cold as tap inlet water temperature.

Our Hotpoint washing machine is cold fill, but the coldest wash programme is 30°.
Herself tells me that for delicate clothing items she uses Asda Non Bio Handwashing Liquid and usually the same detergent on a 40° wash.
She uses Bold washing powder for higher temperature washes.
We have solar panels on our south facing roof at home, so during daylight hours on reasonably clear days our electricity is virtually f.o.c.

Our washing machine has a cold wash but my wife does not believe it would work, so t has never been used she has done one potentially 40c wash at 30c and that worked though. As for washing powder we just use what is on offer, and cannot say any are better than the rest.

Our Hotpoint washing machine is cold fill but looking at the instructions the coldest program is 20 but my wife tells me when using in Synthetics Delicate she use Bold pods they are excellent for beginning at 20c and higher temps and very happy with the results

"Powders"; generically, with our Bosch, we found all we used lead to sedimentation in the riser tube to the level pressure switch. So, a routine after each flood or as a preemptive "mini service", was to delve in the back and clean that through.
Totally cured issue by using liquid detergents, a long-time favourite is Sainsburys non bio.
This though is a machine that must have celebrated its 30th birthday and the odd DIY repairs some time back.
