Wasps Nests

My wife discovered two wasps nests in unused bird nest boxes yesterday in our garden on the patio, without going through the local council how would you get rid of these pests, I have done it my way, but how would you deal with the problem,

Douse as many small twigs as will fit though the openening in white spirit and push them in through the opening. When you’re about there, pour as much as you can in through the opening for good measure. Then pour it over the roof of the bird box. Give it a few minutes to soak in, stand at arms length and light one of the twigs.

Probably better at that point to retire swiftly to the house to enjoy the spectacle.

They won’t come back though 😛

Just buy wasp killer powder, simples, cheap and very effective :lol:

Puff some powder into the nest area, the wasps will carry the powder into the internal nest area (powder attaches to their bodies).

Genocide occurs pretty soon thereafter, if you cannot face murdering them, then leave them alone forever :dry:

This stuff works, I think it contains warfarin, enough in the container to treat dozens of wasp nests:

Contact the secretary of your local angling club and they will come and take it away for you for free. They use the wasps as bait.

When I lived on Dartmoor we had a terraced gareden and wasps set up a nest in one of the dry stone walls which made up the terrace. I asked a neighbour for advice and he said “ pour some petrol into the gaps in the wall around where they go in”. I did that and then put a lighted match into it. Well the wasps disappeared and so did a fair chunk of my walling.

As long as they are not comng into the house why move them ? The birds will keep them down.

Wasps or bee's? After engaging my gears, must be wasp's would be a great big bird box to house a swarm of bees.

Did you not know that we have Ospreys in Rutland, so I need a big bird box on the fence.

Because of poor quality building I got a bee nest in the roof of my porch. I wanted to fill the entry/exit with expanding foam but the "Bee Man" who came around (£30) said they'd eat their way through it. He used some sort of foam,,gaffa taped the holes and said they'd die in a week. It's taken a month so far and still the occasional one appears, but plenty of dead ones on the path. I'll wait until the cold arrives and cement the holes properly.
